Birkam Health Center

Birkam Health Center is the medical outpatient clinic located in the center of campus.

Compared with a community medical center, Birkam accepts walk-ins and takes appointments for illnesses and minor injuries. Run by two family physicians, four registered nurses, a registered pharmacist and an office staff, Birkam treats 15,000 patients annually.

Various services are offered. Students can receive allergy injections, purchase over the counter medicine, stay up to date on immunizations and be tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. (more…)

Save the Date

Guide to important dates of the fall semester

by Published: Jul 8, 2013

So, you’ve decided to go to Ferris, or maybe you’re just returning after a great summer break.

You registered for classes. Now, after you start to look at them, you have some questions about what you can do, should you absolutely hate one of them.

There are some dates to keep in mind, especially for freshmen who may have never had the problem of add/drop or class switching that can come along with college. In high school, you could just waltz into the guidance counselor’s office and ask them to move you from one class to another, easy as pie. Not so in college. (more…)

Textbook How To

Save your money for other things; buy books cheaply, if at all

by Published: Jul 3, 2013

The rest of America has stopped going to bookstores. What keeps college students spending their loan money there?

College is expensive, but the Internet and its endless array of life loopholes, ways around things and places to buy anything is limitless. Use that.

It’s actually a fairly straightforward situation, one leaving us flabbergasted by anyone who opens their wallet in a college bookstore. (more…)

Rate My Professor

Bad professor or lazy student?

by Published: Jun 29, 2013

Rate My Professor is a gem for the affluent Internet folk.

Throughout its tenure as a web page, it has allowed students to give honest and sometimes brutal feedback about the teachers at a particular school. No doubt, many of the readers have either participated or at least checked on the ratings of one or more professors. With 1.7 million rated professors and 938 from Ferris State, the overall site is very thorough in its completeness.

However, with great ratings come great problems. It has been my honest and genuine experience that the higher the professor is rated, the lazier the students are. (more…)

Nearly every Ferris student has woken up late for class and made a dash through campus looking for a vacant parking place. Knowing where to find a parking spot may make a student’s day a little easier.

During the 2011-12 school year, over 13,000 parking citations were handed out. Don’t fret, though. Ferris has more students on campus than ever before in the school’s history. (more…)
