Ferris golfers Lilleboe and Simons qualify for U.S. Amateur Championship

After a 16-year absence from his home state, Chris Boden is hav­ing a home­com­ing as he has joined the Bulldog foot­ball staff.

After grad­u­at­ing from Saginaw Valley State in 1990, Boden began his coach­ing career as a grad­u­ate assis­tant with Central Michigan. In 1994, after he received his mas­ters degree, he left the con­fines of the Great-Lake state in order to pur­sue his coach­ing career. In those 16 years, Boden has held coach­ing posi­tions in Ohio, Georgia, Texas, and South Dakota, where he was the head coach of Northern State for five years. (more…)

Former FSU standout Jake Visser snags role in upcoming Kurt Russell film

Not many for­mer col­lege foot­ball play­ers can list film actor on their resumes, but for­mer Bulldog foot­ball star Jake Visser will get his chance to appear on the big screen after secur­ing a role in the upcom­ing film, “Touchback”.

Visser, a for­mer defen­sive tackle who was named the 2008–2009 National Scholar Athlete of the Year by the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (CCA) after his senior cam­paign, was among 1,200 foot­ball play­ers across the coun­try that audi­tioned to be extras in the film, which stars actor Kurt Russell and for­mer Oscar nom­i­nee Christine Lahti. Two mem­bers of the 2009–2010 Ferris State men’s golf team will com­pete in the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship in University Place, Wash.

Ferris Narrows AD Search to Three Candidates

Candidates take place in final interviews in hopes of securing vacant AD position

With the ath­letic direc­tor posi­tion vacant after for­mer AD Tom Kirinovic fin­ished his 27-year run in June, Ferris has nar­rowed its search to three final­ists to fill the vacant position.

Ferris Vice President for Administration and Finance Jerry Scoby announced on Aug. 10 that after screen­ing more than 75 appli­cants across the coun­try, the search has been dwin­dled down to three final­ists with var­i­ous back­grounds in ath­letic depart­ment employ­ment. (more…)

The Ferris football program looks to find possible recruits and give back to community

With sum­mer in full swing, the Ferris State foot­ball pro­gram is look­ing to find some hid­den tal­ent in the high school ranks dur­ing the 2010 sum­mer camp program.

The sum­mer camp pro­gram, which con­sists of three main events dur­ing July, will give high school ath­letes from around the state the oppor­tu­nity to prac­tice under the guid­ance of the Bulldog coach­ing staff. (more…)

 
 

Over the Hump

The Ferris women’s vol­ley­ball pro­gram recorded its 12th con­sec­u­tive win­ning sea­son dur­ing the 2009 sea­son with an over­all record of 19–12 and will look to build off the suc­cess in 2010.

The Bulldogs also made their 12th con­sec­u­tive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament (GLIAC) appear­ance and 15th NCAA Division II tour­na­ment show­ing dur­ing the 2009 sea­son. Ferris is 7–15 over­all in NCAA Division II tour­na­ment play. The Bulldogs claimed the pro­grams ninth GLIAC Championship in 2004 by win­ning the leagues post­sea­son tour­na­ment. The team will have eight return­ing upper­class­men, seven under­class­men, and two incom­ing recruits for the 2010 sea­son. (more…)

As some Ferris State stu­dents use their sum­mer vaca­tion to relax on the beach, many stu­dents have made a trip to Detroit to watch America’s pas­time, which is a sum­mer tradition.

While activ­i­ties such as going to con­certs and camp­ing out are sta­ples of a col­lege student’s sum­mer, more and more Ferris stu­dents have made going to a Detroit Tigers game an annual sum­mer tra­di­tion. (more…)

Football team looks to get back on track in 2010

The Ferris State foot­ball team will be look­ing to get back to their win­ning ways this upcom­ing fall as they kick off the sea­son on Sept. 3.

The Bulldogs broke their streak of three con­sec­u­tive years with a win­ning sea­son as they fin­ished the 2009 cam­paign with an abysmal 1–10 record. Their only win was against win­less Tiffin University. It was the team’s sec­ond los­ing sea­son in the past nine years. Head Coach Jeff Pierce will be return­ing to the pro­gram for his 16th sea­son as a Bulldog. The Bulldogs have recorded nine win­ning sea­sons out of the 15 years that Pierce has spent at the helm. Ferris AD Announces Retirement

Kirinovic retiring after 27-year career with the athletic department

Ferris State Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic announced his retire­ment at a press con­fer­ence on June 2 after more than 10 years in the position.

Kirinovic, a Ferris grad­u­ate, has been the Athletics Director since November 1999 and served in the Ferris ath­let­ics depart­ment for 27 years. The retire­ment will be offi­cial as of June 30 and the uni­ver­sity will con­duct a nation­wide search to find a suc­ces­sor. (more…)
