Festival of Cultures brings some spice to Big Rapids

Music, aro­mas of for­eign foods and peo­ple of all dif­fer­ent skin col­ors filled the IRC Connector for the 24th Annual International Festival of Cultures.

The fes­ti­val pro­vides an oppor­tu­nity for Ferris’ inter­na­tional stu­dents to share their cul­ture with other stu­dents and the Big Rapids community.

Dozens of booths were set up in the IRC; each rep­re­sented a dif­fer­ent coun­try and offered the nation’s cui­sine. Ferris stu­dents received two free tick­ets for food sam­pling, while non-students could pur­chase tick­ets for 50 cents each. (more…)

The same event that brought you Wiz Khalifa in 2010 is now bring­ing Nipsey Hussle and Dusty Mcfly for its third annual show.

A pre­vi­ous Kappa Showkase, hosted by the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, had a great turnout with rap­per Wiz Khalifa. He played to a sold-out venue at Williams Auditorium. (more…)

Sibs and Kids Weekend brings magic to campus

Much excite­ment and magic appeared on cam­pus dur­ing Ferris State University’s annual Sibs and Kids Weekend March 23.

This event wel­comed stu­dents to invite their sib­lings, friends, and fam­ily to spend a week­end on cam­pus to expe­ri­ence what life is like at Ferris State.

“Sibs and Kids Weekend is a way for every­one to expe­ri­ence what you’re expe­ri­enc­ing at school,” Chelsea Broekema, exec­u­tive board sec­re­tary of Residence Hall Association and co-head of the Programming Committee for RHA, said. “This is an oppor­tu­nity to bring friends and fam­ily together.” (more…)

Smoke fills the room. Beach balls skit­ter across the sur­face of the crowd. Colored strobe lights dart around, high­light­ing the soli­tary indi­vid­ual on stage.

Suddenly the beat drops and the room explodes into a flurry of activ­ity. Some peo­ple are fist bump­ing and wav­ing around glow sticks while oth­ers are full out break-dancing. (more…)

Deth Bunny

Grant, Mich. isn’t known for pro­duc­ing much more than a swamp and swamp peo­ple, but now it will be known for pro­duc­ing swampy sound­ing music as well. Deth Bunny brings on a sound only a mother could love — or a punk rocker. I hap­pen to be the lat­ter. Deth Bunny reminds me of the Dead Kennedys, with polit­i­cally charged lyrics hid­den behind over­driven unpol­ished gui­tar work. (more…)

Movie in the Making

Two FSU students collaborate to produce crime drama film

Parker Hammon and Caleb Hofheinz, Ferris State University fresh­men in the tele­vi­sion and media pro­gram, are com­bin­ing their tal­ents to pro­duce their first film.

The plot con­sists of four kids who steal a car at the begin­ning of the film. As the story unfolds, they dis­cover $50,000 worth of drugs in the trunk and begin to sell them. Soon enough, the kids get deeper and deeper into the drug world as they get involved with a mafia drug lord who com­mands them to start sell­ing for him. (more…)
