With the change of pro­fes­sors each semes­ter, many of them can blur together in the minds of stu­dents. Some pro­fes­sors, how­ever, go above and beyond to leave a last­ing impact on their students.

Michigan artist uses natural disasters as inspiration for artwork

Artist Sheryl Budnik is devi­at­ing from her nor­mally idyl­lic sea and sun­set themes to con­front uncom­fort­able truths about nat­ural dis­as­ters in the world.

Alongside her calm scenes, she also has paint­ings of nat­ural dis­as­ters such as vol­ca­noes, earth­quakes, and for­est fires. Her art dis­play “Chaos & Calm” will be in the Rankin Art Center until Jan. 21. (more…)

Your next addi­tion to your home the­ater setup may be a Kinect, but not in the way that it is avail­able now. Microsoft is rumored to unveil an improved ver­sion of their motion-capture sys­tem Kinect.

This new Kinect would become an Xbox with­out the games. Instead of being a tra­di­tional gam­ing con­sole, this new Kinect would be a one stop enter­tain­ment item by allow­ing users to uti­lize the grow­ing list of con­tent such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, ESPN, and UFC with the inter­ac­tive UI (user inter­face) that makes the Kinect spe­cial. Breaksk8 skating dance troupe to perform at Ferris

Rollerskating is dif­fi­cult enough for some with­out adding danc­ing into the mix, but not for Breaksk8.

Breaksk8 is a roller­skat­ing dance team based out of Kokomo, Ind. They per­formed on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” in 2008 and at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards. Breaksk8 will be per­form­ing at the Williams Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12. (more…)
