Ferris Takes Out Walsh

Bulldogs wrap up road trip with decisive victory in Canton

Ferris State downed the Cavaliers 59-16 to move to a 3-0 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Walsh (1-3) was on the board early as they put up the first points of the game on a field goal to cap off a 14 play, 51-yard drive. The score would remain 3-0 for the entirety of the first quarter.

The second quarter would feature Ferris (3-1) pulling away as sophomore signal-caller, Jason Vander Laan, ran in three red zone scores to put Walsh in a first half deficit.

Ferris’ defense shut down the Cavaliers rushing attack early, forcing Walsh quarterback, Paul Kempe, to handle the offense. Defensive success and Vander Laan’s aforementioned scores led to a 21-3 score heading into halftime.

Ferris kept the ball rolling on offense in the third quarter as the Bulldogs quickly put up two more scores on a 63-yard touchdown run from junior utility man, Dontae Ingraham, and a one-yard goal line blast from junior fullback, Jamaal Jackson, respectively.

Ferris senior kicker, Austin Kantola, put up three more points on a 23-yard field goal to put the score at 38-3 late in the third quarter.

Walsh running back, Jeremy Willison, had the Cavalier’s next points on a 4-yard touchdown run to end the third quarter at 38-10.

The Bulldog’s put the game on ice in the fourth quarter as senior wide receiver, Torico Searcy, caught a pass from junior quarterback, Taylor Masiewicz, for a 31-yard score. Following a Cavalier touchdown from a 2-yard scoring catch from Walsh’s Willison,

Ferris put up two more scores. Both touchdowns came from redshirt-freshman running back, Kitwana Clark, and both were 2-yard goal line scores to leave the game at 59-16.

Ferris ended the game with 615 total yards on offense and allowed 365 yards to Walsh. Vander Laan once again led Ferris in touchdowns with three rushing scores, he ended the game with 85 yards on the ground and 225 through the air. Clark also had a mentionable game with 81 rushing yards and two scores.

Junior defensive back, Scott Patalano, led the defense with 10 tackles, with junior linebacker, Terrell Porter, also tallying eight tackles. Junior corner, A.J. McEwen, nabbed an interception to bring his season total to a team best four picks.

The Bulldogs now move to 3-0 in the GLIAC and enter a three-way tie for first place in the conference. Ferris will next face off against Saginaw Valley in a homecoming matchup on Top-Taggart Field on Oct. 5th with kickoff at 2 pm.
