In this new tech­no­log­i­cal age even the most inti­mate acts are now being per­formed dig­i­tally through a phe­nom­e­non known as “sexting.”

“I view sex­ting as an inter­est­ing way of tex­ting,” said sopho­more Justin Aman. “I can see how it might be fun for couples.”

A gen­eral def­i­n­i­tion of sex­ting is described as the act of send­ing a sex­u­ally explicit and graphic mes­sage or pic­ture by cell phone. (more…)

Mixed Reviews for Job Fair

The FSU Spring Job Fair, which recently took place at the end of March, gave stu­dents a chance to speak with employ­ers from var­i­ous career paths and professions.

Angie Roman, coor­di­na­tor of Career Services, said over 700 stu­dents were in atten­dance as well as 76 employ­ers, a dozen more than last year.

When asked whether or not the job fair was a suc­cess, Roman said the suc­cess is based upon par­tic­i­pant sat­is­fac­tion, the num­ber of student-employer con­tacts made, and what stu­dents learned from the job fair. (more…)

Ferris Reacts to Health Care Reform

History was made Sunday when the U.S. House of Representatives approved the long-debated health care reform and passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The pas­sage of the bill con­cludes the nearly year-long attempt by President Obama and Democratic law­mak­ers to reform the nation’s $2.5 tril­lion health care sys­tem. (more…)

Ferris pro­fes­sor John Scott Gray is cur­rently work­ing on an arti­cle regard­ing phi­los­o­phy and Facebook for the European Journal of Pragmatism and American Philosophy.

His arti­cle, “The Stories We Tell: Facebook and the Re-definition of Intimacy” will look at how Facebook impacts people’s sense of iden­tity and how it has affected the rela­tion­ships peo­ple form with each other and how they relate with one another. (more…)

The Governor Plans Significant Reforms To The Tuition Incentive Program In Her Higher Education Budget Proposal

Governor Jennifer Granholm and the Michigan leg­is­la­ture are look­ing into a pro­posal to amend the Tuition Incentive Program that ben­e­fits cer­tain col­lege students.

As part of Granholm’s pro­posed higher edu­ca­tion bud­get, she is propos­ing a cap on the amount of that will be cov­ered by the gov­ern­ment for TIP stu­dents. The TIP is a two phase finan­cial assis­tance pro­gram that helps qual­i­fied stu­dents pay tuition and make col­lege more afford­able. (more…)

The FSU Baja team recently com­peted in the “Big Air” com­pe­ti­tion and came away vic­to­ri­ous for the sec­ond year in a row.

The Winter Baja Invitational com­pe­ti­tion took place at Michigan Technological University. Both of Ferris’ cars fin­ished in the top ten out of around 40 cars rep­re­sent­ing 18 dif­fer­ent schools. (more…)
