Behind all the glamour and glitz in the fashion industry, there is always a science and unique business opportunity present in every sale.

Alex Lorenz, a sophomore in the public relations program, had an interesting internship opportunity that sparked a passion within her to create the Student Fashion Alliance, a fashion registered student organization on campus. (more…)

Farewell BR

College has taught me lessons in and out of the classroom

by Published: Apr 27, 2011

With every hello, there has to be a goodbye, and as my five years come to a close, this is mine.

Now that I am leaving and finally saying goodbye to Big Rapids, I cannot stop thinking about how my life has changed and what I have learned both in and out of the classroom. Each day has given me opportunities to either succeed or fail, and luckily I’ve been happy with where my choices have taken me. (more…)

Media has consumed our lives, when should we put it down?

by Published: Apr 13, 2011

We tweet, post, blog, check-in, like and tag, but when do we ever just simply talk to someone?

I will admit that I am constantly either on my phone or my computer, and rarely give people face-to-face contact. With the world connected through social media, it has given us an opportunity to communicate through many different mediums. However, it doesn’t even compare to a conversation in person. (more…)

Big Event

by Published: Apr 11, 2011

With more than 1,500 volunteers and just over 200 houses, students from Ferris State University rounded up in the Quad to gather tools needed for a day devoted to the community.

Students went to local Big Rapids houses to rake, clean windows, paint and enjoy a day outside while serving the local community members that may not be able to do the work. The event is held annually every April and with this year being its biggest year so far, Student Government has no plans on slowing down. (more…)

It is not the size of the dog in the fight, but rather it is the size of the fight in the dog.

From sporting events to homecoming to recruiting, Brutus is often the first image people see when they get to Ferris. He is usually the one cheering the loudest, causing the most ruckus, and even the onehaving time to make a kid smile at any event. (more…)

What do you think of online hookup sites?

by Published: Apr 6, 2011

Are we really coming to a world where all we have to do is log on to get off?

This past week I read an article where a University of Chicago undergraduate student started UchicagoHookups.com, an online casual sex site. Students from the U of C can log onto the site to find suitable sex partners for a no-strings-attached night of pleasure. The website has become so popular, Northwestern and Columbia College are now allowed to log on and find sexual partners as well. (more…)

With abandoned homes, bad press, and a poor job market it is no wonder Detroit can never get a break.
