FSU soft­ball team gears up

The FSU soft­ball team took to Florida for its annual Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament in Kissimmee. With the long dis­tance trav­el­ing, the Bulldogs could not find a way to win it this year as they fell by the score of 6–2 against Shippensburg College. Junior pitcher Dana Bowler pitched the entire con­test, giv­ing up six runs on 10 hits. The Bulldogs man­aged to score only two runs on seven hits, mark­ing a dis­ap­point­ing tour­na­ment for the Bulldogs. The sea­son mark for FSU is now 6–8 over­all and the Bulldogs now head home for their home opener against Aquinas College on March 19 at 3:30 p.m. (more…)

FSU defeats GVSU in regular seasons finale

After win­ning the GLIAC North Division Championship last week­end, the Lady Bulldogs turned their focus to the reg­u­lar sea­son finale against arch rival Grand Valley State University.

Coming into the con­test, the Bulldogs held a 19–5 over­all record, but the Lakers showed they weren’t going down with­out a fight. The game came down to the final cou­ple pos­ses­sions; how­ever, FSU man­aged to come away with the big rivalry vic­tory by the score of 46–44. (more…)

Men’s ten­nis falls to Toledo

As the men’s ten­nis team hit the court to start off the 2012 sea­son, the University of Toledo Rockets ended up best­ing the Bulldogs 6–1. Ferris State University ended up tak­ing its only points on the fifth sin­gles match. However, even with the set­back the ten­nis team mem­bers turned their heads to the home opener against Davenport University Feb. 21 in Big Rapids at the FSU Racquet and Fitness cen­ter with a 2–1 over­all record. FSU takes down Wayne State, Findlay to win GLIAC North

The Ferris State University women’s bas­ket­ball team accom­plished some­thing never done before in their his­tory this past Saturday night as they took down Findlay University 80–72 on the road at Findlay’s home arena.

“It felt great,” Ferris senior Lindsey Pettit said. “My last three years our team didn’t accom­plish this, so it feels really good to finally get [on this level of play].” (more…)

All good things must come to an end.

Ferris State University’s 10-game win­ning streak was snapped this past Saturday by Ashland University as the Bulldogs were defeated by the score of 66–56.

The Ashland University Eagles rolled into Big Rapids with a national rank­ing of fifth and an eye-popping 22–1 record with a 16–0 mark in con­fer­ence play. (more…)

Ferris State foot­ball con­tin­ues recruit­ing roll

New FSU foot­ball head coach Tony Annese is off to an excit­ing start to the 2012 recruit­ing class, as Ferris State University picked up its 33rd com­mit­ment of the 2012 class as Curtis Csonka com­mit­ted to the Bulldogs. Curtis was a stand­out offen­sive line­man from Palm City, Fla. Csonka is a rel­a­tive of one of the best play­ers ever to play in the NFL, Larry Csonka, and comes in as one of the more highly touted FSU com­mits. (more…)

 
 

Getting It Done in Geneva

The men’s and women’s track teams returned from a two week break and found them­selves in Geneva, Ohio, for the Division II team chal­lenge hosted by the University of Findlay.

The Bulldog women once again had an impres­sive out­ing. In the 21 team com­pe­ti­tion, FSU com­peted well enough to earn a fourth-place fin­ish. The Bulldogs were led by senior All-American Tina Muir, who came in first in the 3,000 meter run. (more…)

Chad Billins up for Lowe’s Senior Class Award

This past Wednesday Chad Billins of the FSU hockey team was nom­i­nated for the Lowe’s Senior Class Award. Billins has helped lead the Bulldogs into first place in the CCHA. He cur­rently is a co-captain of the Bulldog hockey team and leads the defense in points scored. Billins has racked up four goals and 15 assists for a total of 19 points from the blue line. The hockey series wasn’t the only big event hap­pen­ing in Big Rapids this past week­end, as the Ferris State University men’s bas­ket­ball team hosted a tough Grand Valley State University squad in con­fer­ence action.

The Bulldogs took on the Lakers for a chance to take the reins of first place in the GLIAC North Division, and they accom­plished just that. After earn­ing a com­fort­able 11-point lead at half time, the Bulldogs strolled to a 65–57 win at Jim Wink Arena. (more…)

FSU to hold sign­ing day media event

The sign­ing day for col­lege foot­ball play­ers nation­wide is Feb. 1, where high school ath­letes can offi­cially send in their let­ters of intent to the schools they have cho­sen. New head coach Tony Annese plans to announce the Bulldogs that are join­ing the team in 2012. This day is also the first time coaches can speak on recruits. Tony Annese will be avail­able to answer ques­tions on recruits and the recruit­ing class in gen­eral. The sign­ing day fes­tiv­i­ties will kick off at 3 p.m. on the sec­ond floor of the Wheeler Parillion located at Top Taggert Field. (more…)
