Ferris student shoots hockey film that airs on national television

The Ferris State hockey team made a push toward another visit to the National Championship game this season and with that came the opportunity for one Bulldog student to show his skills.

Mike King is a senior in the Ferris Television and Digital Media Production program. When the Ferris hockey team’s season stretched into the playoffs, Ferris Athletics Social Media Coordinator Michael Corn was looking for help in shooting highlight footage for his web show, “Bulldogs Unleashed.” (more…)

Although another weekend series was cancelled for the Ferris State women’s softball team, they’ll be back in action April 11–13.

Conference Contenders

Ferris waits for GLIAC Season

After a solid season in the GLIAC for Ferris State softball in 2013, the team looks to use the momentum of their current three-game win streak to propel them into conference play.

The Bulldogs finished the 2013 campaign with a 20–6 record in the GLIAC and have a 5–6 overall record early in the 2014 campaign. They will face Lake Erie on March 29 in Painesville, Ohio to begin conference play for 2014. (more…)

Ferris Men’s Tennis snaps eight-game skid

Following an eight-match losing streak, the Ferris men’s tennis team earned two wins in GLIAC play to bring their conference record to 3–2.

The Bulldogs started the weekend off with a 5–4 win over Lake Superior State on March 22. The next day, a similar result was recorded with a 5–4 win over the Huskies of Michigan Tech. The Lakers’ record drops to 9–9 on the season and 2–3 in the conference while the Huskies stand at 8–4 overall and 3–2 in the GLIAC. (more…)

Bulldogs Headed to Grand Rapids

How fans can get in on the WCHA Final Five at Van Andel

The doors to the WCHA Final Five open a day early for fans, where the red hot Ferris hockey team will compete on March 21–22 at Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena.

Ferris advanced to the Final Five by sweeping Bemidji State University on March 14–15 in Big Rapids.

The WCHA regular season champions will roll into the Final Five preparing to play Alaska Anchorage in the semi-final game. The Bulldogs swept the Seawolves on Feb. 21–22. (more…)

The Ferris State men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to Hillsdale this weekend to take part in the GLIAC Indoor Championships.

Junior mid-distance runner Connor LaRowe was one Bulldog who was impressed with the level of competition at this year’s championships and was looking to improve on his seventh place finish in the 800 meter run from last year. (more…)

Young roster breeds optimism for the Bulldogs

The Ferris State women’s softball team lost seven seniors from last year’s squad, but they are looking to catch opponents off-guard this season with young talent.

With the departure of those seven seniors, the Bulldogs will welcome seven freshmen and have a new look to their team, specifically with the pitching staff.

After the graduation of Dana Bowler, the team will look elsewhere for someone to take the spot at the top of the rotation. Bowler logged 211 innings in the circle last year and posted a 21-win season with an ERA of just 1.39. (more…)
