Ferris student shoots hockey film that airs on national television

The Ferris State hockey team made a push toward another visit to the National Championship game this sea­son and with that came the oppor­tu­nity for one Bulldog stu­dent to show his skills.

Mike King is a senior in the Ferris Television and Digital Media Production pro­gram. When the Ferris hockey team’s sea­son stretched into the play­offs, Ferris Athletics Social Media Coordinator Michael Corn was look­ing for help in shoot­ing high­light footage for his web show, “Bulldogs Unleashed.” (more…)

Team prepares for six GLIAC games

Although another week­end series was can­celled for the Ferris State women’s soft­ball team, they’ll be back in action April 11–13.

The Bulldogs had their GLIAC double-header against Grand Valley State can­celled on April 5. This is the third GLIAC series can­celled for the Bulldogs this sea­son, due to weather. (more…)

In a week­end full of ups and downs for Ferris State hockey fans, the over­all expe­ri­ence in Cincinnati proved to be a positive.

Ferris waits for GLIAC Season

After a solid sea­son in the GLIAC for Ferris State soft­ball in 2013, the team looks to use the momen­tum of their cur­rent three-game win streak to pro­pel them into con­fer­ence play.

The Bulldogs fin­ished the 2013 cam­paign with a 20–6 record in the GLIAC and have a 5–6 over­all record early in the 2014 cam­paign. They will face Lake Erie on March 29 in Painesville, Ohio to begin con­fer­ence play for 2014. (more…)

Ferris Men’s Tennis snaps eight-game skid

Following an eight-match los­ing streak, the Ferris men’s ten­nis team earned two wins in GLIAC play to bring their con­fer­ence record to 3–2.

The Bulldogs started the week­end off with a 5–4 win over Lake Superior State on March 22. The next day, a sim­i­lar result was recorded with a 5–4 win over the Huskies of Michigan Tech. The Lakers’ record drops to 9–9 on the sea­son and 2–3 in the con­fer­ence while the Huskies stand at 8–4 over­all and 3–2 in the GLIAC. (more…)

How fans can get in on the WCHA Final Five at Van Andel

The doors to the WCHA Final Five open a day early for fans, where the red hot Ferris hockey team will com­pete on March 21–22 at Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena.

Ferris advanced to the Final Five by sweep­ing Bemidji State University on March 14–15 in Big Rapids.

The WCHA reg­u­lar sea­son cham­pi­ons will roll into the Final Five prepar­ing to play Alaska Anchorage in the semi-final game. The Bulldogs swept the Seawolves on Feb. 21–22. (more…)

The Ferris State men’s and women’s track and field teams trav­eled to Hillsdale this week­end to take part in the GLIAC Indoor Championships.

Junior mid-distance run­ner Connor LaRowe was one Bulldog who was impressed with the level of com­pe­ti­tion at this year’s cham­pi­onships and was look­ing to improve on his sev­enth place fin­ish in the 800 meter run from last year. (more…)

Young roster breeds optimism for the Bulldogs

Senior pitcher Amy Dunleavy winds up a pitch dur­ing the 2012–13 sea­son. The soft­ball team lost seven play­ers to grad­u­a­tion last year and looks to the upcom­ing sea­son with high hopes with a new team of young tal­ented play­ers.

The Ferris State women’s soft­ball team lost seven seniors from last year’s squad, but they are look­ing to catch oppo­nents off-guard this sea­son with young talent.

With the depar­ture of those seven seniors, the Bulldogs will wel­come seven fresh­men and have a new look to their team, specif­i­cally with the pitch­ing staff.

After the grad­u­a­tion of Dana Bowler, the team will look else­where for some­one to take the spot at the top of the rota­tion. Bowler logged 211 innings in the cir­cle last year and posted a 21-win sea­son with an ERA of just 1.39. (more…)

Detroit native Carey Jackson brought Big Rapids its first indoor paint­ball com­plex, a plan he had been work­ing on for a while. Located next to Star Shooters on Michigan Ave., Precision Combat Arena (PCA) offers a sports expe­ri­ence that is safe, fun and a good way to get some exer­cise. (more…)
