BP Armageddon

Forethought may be the key to survival

by Josh Crowton, Opinions Editor Published: Aug 25, 2010

As the movie ‘Armageddon’ played recently on my TV. during a dreary, overcast day, I came to a realization.

That realization being, if God-forbid, anything even remotely close to the story line happened in real life, we as a people, are done for. The human race will be adios, toast, stick a fork in us because this goose is cooked. (more…)

The women’s volleyball team will open its 38th season of varsity play on Sept. 3 as the Bulldogs will host the Ferris State Invitational.

The team returns 13 players from the 2009 squad, which earned a NCAA Tournament appearance for the 15th time in school history. While the team has many players returning from last year’s team, only three were starters. Fifteenth-year head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm hopes last year’s success will help the new starters transition into their roles as they know not only what is to be expected of them, but of the team. After a 16-year absence from his home state, Chris Boden is having a homecoming as he has joined the Bulldog football staff.

After graduating from Saginaw Valley State in 1990, Boden began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with Central Michigan. In 1994, after he received his masters degree, he left the confines of the Great-Lake state in order to pursue his coaching career. In those 16 years, Boden has held coaching positions in Ohio, Georgia, Texas, and South Dakota, where he was the head coach of Northern State for five years. (more…)

Big Rapids offers unique ways of having fun

by Josh Crowton, Opinions Editor Published: Aug 25, 2010

Big Rapids offers a variety of activities for students to do in many fun and unique locations.

I have heard so many students on campus declare that Big Rapids is a boring city. Being bored is an option, not a sealed fate to the Ferris State student. This is especially true if you enjoy the out-of-doors. (more…)

Puppy Love

by Josh Crowton, Opinions Editor Published: Aug 25, 2010

I have been a dog lover my whole life, so I cannot stand it when I see a dog or any other pet being ill-treated.

I feel that many college students, who like myself, are pet lovers and they decide to get a pet while in college. For some this may not be an issue, but with my busy schedule I know that I would not have the necessary time to dedicate towards caring for a pet. (more…)

Is downloading music wrong?

by Josh Crowton, Opinions Editor Published: Aug 25, 2010

I know I’ve done it, and I also know there is a pretty good chance that you have downloaded songs too.

In fact, I honestly cannot think of one single person that I am friends with who does not download songs from the internet. Even my Mom does it. Granted, just because my Mom does it, that does not exactly make it right. (more…)

The Ferris State football team will be looking to get back to their winning ways this upcoming fall as they kick off the season on Sept. 3.

The Bulldogs broke their streak of three consecutive years with a winning season as they finished the 2009 campaign with an abysmal 1–10 record. Their only win was against winless Tiffin University. It was the team’s second losing season in the past nine years. Head Coach Jeff Pierce will be returning to the program for his 16th season as a Bulldog. The Bulldogs have recorded nine winning seasons out of the 15 years that Pierce has spent at the helm. As summer is upon us, college students on a tight budget are turning to disc golf for summer fun.

Students in Big Rapids can travel a short distance to the Northend Riverside Park, which includes an 18-hole disc golf course. The course is free to anyone who wants to play and the only cost is the disc itself, which ranges from $8 to $20. (more…)

The Ferris State softball team answered a tough challenge over the weekend as they won three of four games against two ranked opponents.

Ferris head coach Keri Becker feels that her team’s consistency is a big reason why the Bulldogs were able to have this late season success.

“I am very happy coming away 3–1 from the weekend,” said Becker. “We played really well and we could have easily been 4–0.” (more…)
