Blizzard Delays Bulldog Hockey Game

Ferris, Alaska will play Saturday and Sunday

The Bulldog hockey team’s game against the Alaska Nanooks orig­i­nally sched­uled for Friday was moved to Sunday due to travel delays.

Ferris was sched­uled to fly out of Grand Rapids on Wednesday morn­ing, but was inevitably delayed due to blizzard-like con­di­tions. The Bulldogs were sup­posed to be in Fairbanks by Wednesday night, but did not arrive until Friday afternoon.

The teams and the CCHA agreed to move Friday’s con­test to Sunday at 7:05 p.m. local time. The teams will play tonight at 7:05 p.m. local time as orig­i­nally sched­uled. (more…)

Communication has been com­pletely rev­o­lu­tion­ized by tech­nol­ogy, but not nec­es­sar­ily for the better.

It has changed dra­mat­i­cally over the past 20 years. If you wanted to talk to your friend down the street, you jumped on your bike, rode to his house and talked in per­son. Now all it takes is pick­ing up your cell phone and send­ing a quick text. (more…)

Ferris men's, women's basketball teams avenge losses

The Ferris State men’s and women’s bas­ket­ball teams won Thursday night, mark­ing the fifth time this sea­son that both teams were vic­to­ri­ous on the same day.

The men’s team defeated the Michigan Tech Huskies 70–60, aveng­ing a three-point loss in Houghton ear­lier in the sea­son. The Bulldogs outscored the Huskies 40–32 in the sec­ond half. Ferris con­nected on 17 of 20 free-throw attempts and shot 46.2 per­cent from the field. (more…)

It Will Cost You

The ris­ing cost of edu­ca­tion in the U.S. is caus­ing seri­ous prob­lems for stu­dents and finan­cial institutions.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the aver­age cost for under­grad­u­ate tuition and room and board for the 2007-08 aca­d­e­mic year at pub­lic insti­tu­tions was $11,578. For four-year insti­tu­tions, the fig­ure rose to $13,424. Since the num­bers are now three years old, the cost is undoubt­edly even higher than that. (more…)

Big Rapids to Glasgow

Ferris State junior guard/forward Tricia Principe will travel to Glasgow, Scotland for a two-month graphic design intern­ship this summer.

Principe, a native of Kalamazoo and grad­u­ate of Mattawan High School, said she stud­ied abroad in Europe the past few sum­mers and loved it. (more…)

 
 

Bulldogs Jump to Third in Conference

Sweep of BGSU moves Ferris ahead of Miami, Alaska

After sweep­ing Bowling Green in a road series over the week­end, the nation­ally No. 20-ranked Ferris hockey team moved into third in the CCHA standings.

Ferris improved its record to 11−8−4 over­all and 8−6−3−2 in the con­fer­ence. The Bulldogs jumped nation­ally No. 7-ranked Miami in the CCHA stand­ings after the RedHawks were swept by Ohio State dur­ing the week­end. However, Ferris has played more con­fer­ence games than any other team in the CCHA.

Ferris returns to the ice on Jan. 14 against nation­ally No. 8-ranked Michigan in Ann Arbor at 7:35 p.m. The team will host Michigan the fol­low­ing night in the series finale at 7:05 p.m. The Wolverines are sec­ond in the CCHA stand­ings with a 10−4−1 con­fer­ence record. (more…)
