Feb. 19 at 3:10 a.m., offi­cers stopped a vehi­cle on State Street near Perry Street for an ille­gal U-turn. The dri­ver was intox­i­cated and lodged in coun­try jail for OWI.

MIP

Feb. 25 at 2 a.m., there was a report of a large dis­or­derly crowd in the West Campus Apartments area. One sub­ject was tick­eted for MIP and another for uri­nat­ing in pub­lic. (more…)

Faculty members negotiate unfair working conditions

Members of the Ferris adjunct union were seen pick­et­ing near the Timme Center for Student Services on Feb. 28 to nego­ti­ate what they say is unfair work­ing con­di­tions for adjunct professors.

Negotiations have been tak­ing place since Feb 3, 2011. The Ferris Nontenure-Track Faculty Organization (FNTFO) rep­re­sents an esti­mated 100 adjunct fac­ulty who are involved in nego­ti­a­tions with the uni­ver­sity. Members are bring­ing atten­tion to nego­ti­a­tions with Ferris’ admin­is­tra­tion in hopes for bet­ter job secu­rity, more clear and con­cise poli­cies, health care ben­e­fits and fair salaries. Feb. 1 at 9:19 p.m., there was a report of a vehi­cle dam­aged in Lot 17. The pas­sen­ger win­dow was smashed out and items were stolen.

Credit card fraud

Controversy over death of music star vs. soldier

It’s no secret music indus­try leg­end Whitney Houston died Feb. 11, and many peo­ple world­wide are mourn­ing the loss of what was con­sid­ered to be one of the great­est voices of our generation.

With Whitney’s trou­bled past, the media has made it their great­est effort to get all the lat­est infor­ma­tion out in the open about her death. The pop­u­lar­ity of social media has spread the word faster than most of us can even keep up with. (more…)

Ferris strives to be culturally diverse

Michael Wade said Ferris has grown to be a more diverse cam­pus by pro­mot­ing and sup­port­ing more diversity-related initiatives.

Wade, the assis­tant direc­tor of the Office of Multicultural Student Services, said, “I believe the diversity-related changes at Ferris are so the cam­pus com­mu­nity can have the oppor­tu­ni­ties and take advan­tage of oppor­tu­ni­ties to fur­ther under­stand the wide scope of diver­sity.” (more…)

Is marijuana considered a safer drug than alcohol?

They wore suits and ties in hopes to raise $1,000 apiece from 1,000 peo­ple. $1 mil­lion dol­lars while gath­er­ing 322,609 sig­na­tures by July 9 is their first step toward legal­iz­ing mar­i­juana in Michigan.

At a news con­fer­ence Jan. 20 at Roberts River Walk Hotel & Residence in Detroit, a dozen mem­bers of the Committee for a Safer Michigan announced the kick­off cam­paign of their effort to put their legal­iza­tion ques­tion on Michigan’s November bal­lot. (more…)

Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning provides high quality, rich diversity opportunities for faculty and students
