The Bulldogs lost back-to-back games on the road to Walsh to open up GLIAC play in 2-1 and 6-4 contests respectively. Ferris committed four defensive errors between the two games,
The last time the Bulldogs had played on the field was March 14 in Winter Haven, Florida, at the Florida Rebel Spring Games.
The women’s overall record dropped to 5-8 following the losses and their conference record sits at 0-2 because of the weather cancellations.
The Bulldogs have been practicing inside the multipurpose room in the sports complex in order to work on their hitting and pitching.
“All we want to do is get outside and play,” junior outfielder Jordan Maxwell said. “It is so frustrating being stuck inside for all of our practices.”
Even though Ferris’ softball team has seen little of the field in weeks, they remain confident they will perform well in their upcoming games against GLIAC components.
“I think the cancellations have gotten the team pretty anxious to play,” freshman catcher/third baseman Sydney Hasselbach said. “We are all frustrated practicing indoors because we all want to play so badly. I think it will take some getting used to being outside again, but I know my team can overcome it and work hard to be the best we can.”
Due to the annulments on March 22, 23 and 26 which stopped six games, the Bulldogs have had to work hard to get their games rescheduled, especially the conference games.
“We are not sure if we can get a field, but we are going to look as soon as we get off the bus,” Hasslebach said prior to the games at Walsh. “Even though we have not played anyone in the conference yet, I feel super confident and excited to play them and anybody at this point.”
Due to weekend weather in Ohio, the Bulldogs played their GLIAC doubleheader on Monday, March 31 against Walsh.
Ferris rescheduled their games against Lake Superior State that were supposed to be Tuesday, April 1 for Monday, April 21 at 1 and 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs hope to hit off at home on Saturday, April 5, against Grand Valley State University with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
