The Venlo shooting suspect has been identified by police as 20-year-old DeCory Demarco Downing, of the Mt. Clemens/Macomb area.
Downing has been charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a firearm. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
Police have still not found a motive, and they have no indication Downing knew the victim, who has yet to be identified. Downing has no ties to Ferris, according to Borkovich.

Less than a mile from where the Venlo shooting suspect was taken into custody in the early hours of this morning, Ferris Director of DPS Bruce Borkovich is addressing the media in a 9 a.m. press conference at the Ferris Department of Public Safety.

Ferris news services and social media manager Sandy Gholston confirmed the man believed to be the shooting suspect is in custody. No one was injured during the arrest. A press conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2.

Shortly before midnight, police apprehended the suspect believed to have shot a Ferris student at Venlo Place Apartments in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 1.
Ferris staff and faculty members who have been kept abreast of the situation by law enforcement due to their involvement in weekend activities on campus received a text message at approximately 12:25 a.m. that said the suspect had been arrested.
Finch Court residents wearing bullet proof vests for protection were reportedly evacuated from their residences prior to the arrest.
Ferris news services and social media manager Sandy Gholston said the university will be releasing an official statement within the next half hour.
