Ferris State Hockey took control of the series against Bowling Green this weekend when they roared back with a win on Nov. 16.
They remain atop the conference, and have 11 of the possible 12 points in their six conference match ups.
The Falcons jumped in front when Kevin Dufour scored at 12:37 in the first. The next BGSU and then they added a goal that was scored by Matt Pohlkamp.
The Bulldogs flat start began to turn around and caught some momentum on a goal made off of a rebound from freshman Forward Kyle Schempp at 18:03 in the second. This made the score 2-1 at the end of the second period.
“Right before we scored [in the second], I really felt we carried the play at the end of the second. We gained a lot of confidence in the end of the end of the second and I did feel like it carried over into the start of the third,” said Head Coach Bob Daniels.
The Bulldogs came onto the ice strong in third period and managed a shorthanded goal scored on a breakaway by sophomore Forward Kenny Babinski to tie the game at 2-2 5:37 into the third.
“Obviously it [the goal] gave us momentum and we were able to push forward from there,” said Babinski.
At 16:13, sophomore forward Matt Robertson banked in a shot on a loose puck. It was his second goal of the season and his goal set the score at 3-2.
Not only did scoring heighten in the third period, but the number of penalties between both teams grew higher. The Bulldogs warmed the box with 3 penalties while the Falcons received 2.
When both teams gained full strength, the Bulldogs scored their last goal making the score 4-2. It went into Bowling Greens net at 18:59 by senior Forward Garrett Thompson.
Thompson ripped a shot from the top of the circle in his own end at the empty net, and jumped into the Ferris State bench out of excitement.
Ferris takes on Alaska Anchorage next Friday, Nov. 22 in the Dog House. The puck will drop at 7:07 p.m.
