The nationally ranked #19 Ferris State Hockey team left the Bemidji State Beavers in the dust in a Nov. 9 5–3 win at Ewigleben.

The win gave the Bulldogs sole possession of first place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Bulldogs dominated the Beavers in the first period leaving a lopsided 4–0 mark on the scoreboard, including an 18–2 lead in shots.

The Bulldogs chased starting goaltender Andrew Walsh with the four goal outburst, which brought backup Reid Mimmack, who stopped 11-of-12 shots in his two periods of work.

The Beavers roared out of the gates in the second, and made it a game again with three unanswered goals. Beaver forwards Brad Robbins (1) and Markus Gerbrandt (2) split the scoring for the Beavers allowing to play catch up with the Bulldogs.

Having Bemidji come back so quickly without any goals shook up the direction of the game for the Bulldogs until Senior Andy Huff placed the puck in at 14:04 in the second. This set the score 5–3 for the rest of the game.

The physicality of the game began to heighten when one of the Bemidji players made contact with CJ Motte at the net. The Bulldogs stuck together not only for the game, but during the fight to defend Motte.

In the aftermath, Ferris senior forward Garrett Thompson received a two-minute minor for roughing after the whistle. Beaver defender Sam Rendle went off on a two minute minor for charging the goaltender. Forward Mitch Cain also went to the box for roughing after the whistle as well.
