The Big Event
The Big Event, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 13, has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 20. The event was pushed back due to poor weather conditions.
The annual event is still set to begin at 9 a.m. Participants are to meet in the campus quad.
Torch Award
John Vestevich has been awarded first place for editorial cartooning in the 2012 Mark of Excellence Awards put on by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). The Mark of Excellence Awards (MOE) credit the best of collegiate journalism from a year, according to an article on SPJ.org.
The senior in graphic design has worked for the Ferris State Torch since September 2010 as an editorial cartoonist. He has received many honors in that time.
Because Vestevich received a first place award, he will move on to the national MOE competition among category winners from the 12 SPJ regions in the nation. If he is a national winner, Vestevich will be notified late spring and recognized at the Excellence in Journalism 2013 conference, taking place in Southern California from Aug. 24 to 26.
Kendall President
The president of Ferris State University’s Kendall College of Art and Design, David Rosen, has been elected to the Board of Directors of ArtServe Michigan.
ArtServe Michigan is statewide nonprofit arts and cultural advocacy organization.
According to University Advancement and Marketing, members who are elected to serve on the board are active in many things, including public policy, business, cultural organizations, civic affairs, higher education, the legal profession and nonprofit work.
Board members are elected to serve three-year terms and meet quarterly to guide the organization in its efforts to advocate, connect and support the creative community.
Interim VP for Student Affairs
Following Dr. Daniel Burcham’s retirement on March 31, Donald Flickinger will serve as the interim vice president for Student Affairs at Ferris State.
From 2007 to 2012, Flickinger served as associate provost for Academic Operations at Ferris and has 25 years of service to the university.
According to University Advancement and Marketing, Ferris plans to begin a search this spring for a new vice president for Student Affairs. The goal is to have the new VP in place by Jan. 1, 2014.
