CCHA regular season champions finished off the season by hosting Western Michigan

by Published: Feb 26, 2012

Although the Bulldogs lost 3–0 against the Broncos of Western Michigan, Saturday’s game meant more than just a regular season finale. It was senior night, honoring eight Bulldog players before the game with a lone skate around the rink. And after the game, the team was presented with the CCHA regular season trophy. Ferris State had secured a first round bye of the CCHA playoffs due to a first place regular season finish. The Bulldogs return to the ice in a second round series on March 9, 10, and 11th against the lowest seeded team.

by Published: Feb 24, 2012

When asked if his current 11-game point streak had anything to do with the Bulldogs current success senior Bulldog defenseman Chad Billins modestly replied not at all; instead the team is successful because of their depth Billins said.

“Getting scoring from all from all four lines has definitely helped our team and just shows how deep our roster is night in and night out,” Billins said. (more…)

When it comes to your next upgrade for your computer, it will remind you more of the device that you carry with you every day of the week. Student’s walking into the current exhibit at Rankin Art Gallery—Demon Masks and Timelines by James MaloneBeach-—found themselves a little spooked. The artist, a retired Big Rapids High School art teacher, used a timeline of uniform masks, plastered with various memorabilia of past events in world history and his own life. But despite the eerie appearance, the art was not without appreciation of student viewers.

FSU freshman in graphic design Kevin Maenle agreed that the masks were somewhat morbid. (more…)

I attended the Leadership Summit Conference at Grand Valley State University this past weekend and found myself listening to a presentation about LinkedIn, the largest professional network on the Internet.

I was fascinated that 150 million members from more than 200 countries are constantly searching for new employees or new employment opportunities. According to the LinkedIn company overview at linkedin.com, their members conducted over 4.2 billion professional oriented searches in 2011. (more…)

Dos Annese

New FSU head football coach is the most interesting man on campus

by Published: Feb 23, 2012

His words carry weight that would break a less interesting man’s jaw. He’s won trophies for his game face alone. He bowls overhand. He is the most interesting man at Ferris State University.

On Dec. 22, FSU Athletic Director Perk Weisenburger announced the appointment of Tony Annese as the new head football coach. According to Weisenburger, Annese had been selected from a field of 50 applicants which had resulted from a nationwide search. Coming off three successful seasons at Grand Rapids Community College, Annese is believed to be the man who will not only restore the winning tradition that once was Bulldog football but also take the program to the next level. On Feb. 16, I attended the second of President Eisler’s Student Debt and Degree Completion forums. I was disappointed, and shocked, by some of the ideas put forth by the participants.

Eisler opened the meeting with some “sobering” statistics. In five years (2006 to 2011), student debt increased by 66.3 percent. At the rate of 66.3 percent every five years, in 2020 student debt will reach $90,000 or more for a bachelor’s degree at Ferris. (more…)
