Ferris State battled the Wayne State Warriors in a match that featured 41 ties and 19 lead changes to determine who would face Grand Valley State University in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.

The Bulldogs held a 12–11 lead in the best to 15, fifth set when Wayne State subbed in the GLIAC’s sixth-best point-producer, junior outside hitter Kristen Bulkiewicz. Attack errors and unforced errors plagued the Bulldogs as Wayne State rallied behind Kristen Bulkiewicz to slam home the winning kill for a 3–2 defeat Nov. 14.

Ferris State was trailing 21–19 in the first set following a timeout by Ferris coach Tia Brandel– Wilhelm. Immediately after the break, senior outside hitter Aly Brecht contributed with a block that appeared to swing the momentum towards the home teams favor. Shortly after, senior setter Samantha Fordyce added a kill after completing a jumping pirouette while connecting with the ball that helped seal a first set victory.

Bulkiewicz etched game highs in kills and overall points with 28 and 30.5 respectively, as her play exclaimed why she received last week’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week honors.

The Bulldogs overall record slid to 23–7 with a GLIAC record of 16–2.

Ferris State’s quest for a consecutive conference championship is over. The Bulldog’s season is at the mercy of the NCAA Division II selection committee. Tournament selections will be announced on Nov. 18 at 10 p.m.
