Two Bulldog seniors sign deals with minor-league hockey teams

With the 2010-11 sea­son wrapped up after an early exit from the CCHA Tournament, two Bulldog hockey play­ers have received a chance to con­tinue their play­ing careers.

Senior defense­man Scott Wietecha and senior left wing Mike Embach have both signed with pro­fes­sional hockey clubs after an 18−16−5 cam­paign in their final sea­sons’ at Ferris. (more…)

2011 Cesar Chavez March and Gathering

Ferris State University mem­bers can par­tic­i­pate in the 2011 Cesar Chavez Social Injustice March and Gathering in Grand Rapids on March 31. The march and gath­er­ing will honor the life of Chavez, a past migrant farm worker leader, for his work toward equal­ity among farm work­ers and envi­ron­men­tal jus­tice through­out the United States. Chavez passed away in 1993 and was the founder of the United Farm Workers of America. The march will begin at 10 a.m. and con­tinue until 2:30 p.m. The 11th annual march is free and open to the cam­pus com­mu­nity. It is spon­sored by Grand Rapids Community College. The NCAA Division I men’s and women’s bas­ket­ball tour­na­ments pro­vide the most excit­ing level of col­le­giate com­pe­ti­tion and drama.

March Madness is action packed. It’s filled with heart­break and jubi­la­tion. The final 60 sec­onds of a game can be five min­utes of hold­ing your breath. Every year there are Cinderella teams that “upset” the national pow­er­houses. (more…)

Seniors Zach Redmond and Pat Nagle were among 15 indi­vid­u­als rec­og­nized as CCHA award finalists.

Redmond, a final­ist for the Best Offensive Defensemen Award, said he “wasn’t going into things with high expec­ta­tions” because of the injuries he had expe­ri­enced this sea­son. (more…)

On March 19 at 6:50 p.m., there was a report of a mar­i­juana com­plaint in Cramer Hall. One sub­ject was iden­ti­fied and referred to the Office of Student Conduct.

Intoxicated inci­dent

On March 19 at 3 a.m., offi­cers stopped a vehi­cle on Perry Ave. at State Street. The dri­ver was found to be intox­i­cated and lodged in the city jail for an OWI. (more…)

The front page of the next day’s local sports sec­tion is pasted with pho­tos of the point guard who nailed the game-winning shot. When walk­ing down one of South Bond Hall’s floors next year, stu­dents may be sur­prised to notice that there will be no males liv­ing there.

Bond Hall is try­ing some­thing dif­fer­ent and mak­ing one of its floors for females only. The new house will be set up adja­cent to the inter­na­tional house, giv­ing girls the oppor­tu­nity to live sep­a­rated from males for reli­gious, cul­tural or per­sonal rea­sons. (more…)
