Bulldogs’ Title Bid Falls Short

Ferris receives bid to Division II NCAA Tournament

The Bulldogs are still in search of their first GLIAC Tournament Championship since 2006 after los­ing 73–71 to the Wayne State Warriors on Sunday.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs received an at-large bid to the Division II NCAA Tournament. Ferris is the sixth seed in the Midwest region and its first round oppo­nent is none other than Wayne State. The Bulldogs and Warriors will rematch on March 12 in the open­ing round of the national tour­na­ment at Bellarmine University in Louisville. (more…)

Ferris defeats Michigan Tech in semifinals

The Ferris State men’s bas­ket­ball team defeated Michigan Tech 73–64 on its home floor on Saturday to advance to the GLIAC Championship game.

The Bulldogs have not hosted the con­fer­ence tour­na­ment semi­fi­nals and final game since the 1994–95 sea­son. Ferris has not claimed the GLIAC Tournament Championship since the 1997–98 sea­son. (more…)

Ferris tops Saginaw Valley, faces Michigan Tech in Semifinals

The Bulldogs showed why they’re the top seed in the GLIAC Tournament on March 3 as they buried Saginaw Valley State 80–61 in the quar­ter­fi­nal round of the tournament.

Ferris fell behind by five points five min­utes into the game, but a 19–7 Bulldog run to end the first half game them a 43–32 advan­tage at halftime.

The sec­ond half belonged solely to the Bulldogs, as they outscored the Cardinals 37–29 in the final half to keep the game out of reach. Ferris led by as many as 30 points with 5:12 left in reg­u­la­tion as most of the starters were on the bench at that point. (more…)

Quiet hours shouldn’t just apply to the week

Everyone knows about the res­i­dence halls’ quiet hours.

During the week, they start at 11 p.m., and on the week­end at 1 a.m., as most col­lege stu­dents are up later on the week­end. Let’s be hon­est, it’s not uncom­mon to have a noise com­plaint or two each week. What about the week­end though? (more…)

You’re always told that as long as you study and get good grades and go to col­lege, you’ll get a good job and become successful.

What is often left out of the dis­cus­sion is that most col­lege stu­dents get to leave col­lege with not only a degree, but with a minia­ture mort­gage that starts six months after you grad­u­ate. It’s a great trade off, isn’t it? (more…)

Some students think it’s more about the experience than the performer

Ferris Fest is just a cou­ple months away and with Sean Kingston and Cartel being announced as two of the acts, FSU stu­dents are already get­ting pumped up for the show or wish­ing it was some­one else.

Every year, Ferris Fest is put on by Entertainment Unlimited. The group must select an act and then plan every­thing involved with the show. (more…)

FSU sees an increase in international students

From all over the world, cul­tur­ally diverse stu­dents are yearn­ing for a Ferris State University edu­ca­tion, where inter­na­tional enroll­ment is on the rise.

From the grad­ual decrease of inter­na­tional stu­dents since 2001, the uni­ver­sity has sparked an increase of inter­na­tional inter­est by re-implementing the Intensive English Program (IEP) in fall 2010. The IEP is a “shel­tered pro­gram for those who don’t speak English,” said Piram Prakasam, direc­tor of International Education. (more…)

Bulldogs lose in overtime on buzzer beater against rival GVSU, still clinch top seed in GLIAC Tourney

After clinch­ing a 79–72 over­time vic­tory against Grand Valley at the “131 Showdown” ear­lier this sea­son, the Bulldogs were on the oppo­site end in the reg­u­lar sea­son finale against the Lakers.

It came down to a last-second bank shot at the end of over­time from GVSU’s Breland Hogan in front of a Wink Arena record 2,443 fans to give the Lakers the 82–80 vic­tory on Saturday. (more…)

 
 
 

Support Your Team

What the men’s bas­ket­ball team has accom­plished this sea­son is not short of spec­tac­u­lar. The team won its first GLIAC North Division title since 2005 and earned a share of the reg­u­lar sea­son con­fer­ence title. The team also claimed the No. 1 seed in the con­fer­ence tour­na­ment. (more…)
