by Published: Feb 26, 2011

Like their previous meeting in Grand Rapids this earlier this season, it came down to overtime between the Bulldogs and Lakers. But this time the Lakers came out on top 82–80 on a last-second bank shot as the clock hit 0:00.

The 21st-ranked Ferris men’s basketball team battled back from a slow start in the first half to knot the score at 34–34 at halftime. The second half proved no different as both teams posted 34 points in the second 20 minutes to deadlock at 68–68 at the end of regulation. (more…)

Does college really offer any change for students from high school?

by Published: Feb 24, 2011

As former high school students, many college students could probably say that the transition to a world on their own was one they looked forward to eagerly.

To most, college offers a fresh start full of freedom, good times, and a world where someone can be whoever he or she wants. It’s a chance to start with a fresh group of friends and new relationships. No one knows each other, and essentially, no one can tell anyone else what to do. (more…)

Why are Americans so overweight?

by Published: Feb 23, 2011

There are 142 million Americans who are either over-weight or obese and that number is only expected to rise in the upcoming years.

Where did the American people get all of these front butts, back titties, and quadruple chins? (more…)

It is the end of an era as the destruction of Carlisle Hall marks another step toward Ferris State’s Big Rapids Campus Master Plan.

Located on north campus, the 55-year-old Carlisle Hall will be closed after spring 2011. This gives the current residents time to choose which Honors hall they will live in next school year. Student options are Helen-Ferris, Puterbaugh, Henderson or Ward, the newly refurbished Honors residence hall. (more…)

Jonni Skiba, FSU student in her second year of pharmacy school, recently became engaged to the man of her dreams whom she has only seen for an estimated 60 days throughout their entire three-year relationship.

Relationships are something that require constant care and work, which is hard enough to do when you’re together let alone when you’re apart. (more…)

The Bulldogs wanted to be the best this year. They knew they would have to beat the best down the stretch to get the GLIAC North crown. And with just one game left in the regular season, the Bulldogs are GLIAC North champs.

Saturday had all the makings of the kind of excitement you see during March madness: fans rushing the court, nets being cut down, team photos with the Bulldogs letting everyone know they are number one. And with all of it, it can almost be forgotten that senior center Justin Keenan is one point away from becoming the all-time leading scorer in GLIAC history. (more…)

First Real Job

by Published: Feb 23, 2011

I am one of the fortunate seniors that have a job lined up after graduation in May.

Many of my friends have had trouble securing jobs after graduation and some have chosen to go to graduate school. For those students who do not wish to continue their education after graduation, the number of days before May 7 is dwindling quickly. The final 73 days of the semester will be stressful for many graduating seniors. (more…)

FSU student Corey VanBuren always needed a physical outlet to bring him peace. Growing up in Belding, VanBuren said he enjoyed physical sports that gave him an adrenaline rush.

“During high school, football was that outlet for those needs. After that was over, I didn’t know what to do with myself,” said VanBuren. (more…)

Panel discussion shows obstacles faced by returning veterans
