Cursive Writing to Be a Thing of the Past

We don’t need cursive writing anymore

by Published: Nov 18, 2011

Handwriting is something most college students avoid whenever possible, and now the public school system is making it even easier.

Many states are no longer requiring schools to teach cursive writing. This decision has been met with some controversy on the Internet. The older generation seems more hostile to the idea, while the younger generation is applauding. (more…)

To Assume Makes a You-Know-What Out of You and Me

Understanding other’s realities gets us further than making judgments

by Published: Nov 17, 2011

How often do we assume the worst of people? How quickly do we unconsciously judge, even though we’d hate to have the same done to us?

There is nothing more painful than going through something very difficult in your own reality, knowing that the world doesn’t wish to understand. So often our explanations of someone’s situation or actions are cold, assuming and negative. (more…)

Get Your Money’s Worth

Attending events is the only way to improve them

by Published: Nov 17, 2011

I was shocked when I saw a student take a flyer, crumple it and throw it to the ground nearly five seconds after he received it.

I was appalled when an entire row of students asked a presenter for an autograph proving they attended the event and walked out of the room before the presentation even began. (more…)

Ferris students have felt the effects of raising tuition and a slow economy, but Obama’s new student loan plan promises to help ease the pain.

Amidst the turmoil, President Obama has come forth to announce his hopes for alleviating student loan debt. This plan will allow students to “pay as they earn” by consolidating their federal loan payments into a single payment not to exceed 10 percent of their discretionary income. The plan will also forgive debt after 20 years of payment. (more…)
