Be Proactive, Limit Cell Phone Use

The cell phones we love so much could cause damage in the future

by Published: Oct 28, 2011

It’s small, it’s black and it fits in my pocket. You guessed it, my cell phone.

Think back to our high school and middle school days when we begged our parents to buy us cell phones. I’m not sure about you, but I know I did not get my first cell phone until I was in eleventh grade. Before that I would use my house phone or a friend’s cell phone, if they had one. Now, gosh, five years later, having a cell phone is part of life. It’s really rare to hear of someone not having a cell phone, kind of like not having a Facebook. It’s weird. (more…)

by Published: Oct 27, 2011

St. Peter’s Lutheran School, located on West Bellevue Street, is receiving the aid of two Ferris students at its annual fashion show.

Tirzah Price and Kristy Britton, alumni of St. Peter’s, have decided to donate some of their time to help the school raise funds to help support itself.

“Being in a smaller setting in a private school is very different from public schools,” Price said of her experience at St. Peter’s. “I really appreciate the support I got there beyond the classroom.” (more…)

FSU women’s and men’s cross country finish second and fourth at GLIAC Championships

by Published: Oct 27, 2011

The Ferris State University men’s and women’s cross country teams finished up the conference season at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships this weekend.

The men’s team finished fourth in the tournament which is the highest finish ever for the Bulldogs.

“It was really exciting, nobody was disappointed. The course was really muddy so it took guts, and it was just a great way to finish off the season,” FSU sophomore runner David Silversmith said. (more…)

GPS Navigation for Dummies

Do drivers rely too heavily on technological devices to get from point A to point B?

by Published: Oct 27, 2011

There was a recent article about three young women who escaped a sinking SUV after a direction from a rental car GPS unit sent them down a boat launch and into the Mercer Slough near Bellevue, Wash.

The driver apparently thought she was on a road while following her GPS unit just after midnight — but she was actually heading down the Sweyolocken boat launch. This was just a case of a lost driver and a GPS system that didn’t quite live up to standards. (more…)

If it wasn’t for his father, junior left wing Kyle Bonis may not have continued playing hockey.

When Bonis was three years old, his father took him to an ice rink to learn to skate. Bonis initially found displeasure in ice skating because he didn’t have immediate success.

Bonis, like many who ice skate for the first time, immediately fell on his butt. (more…)

No Drugs Required

More colleges should make drug testing mandatory for enrollment

by Published: Oct 26, 2011

Recently, a college in Missouri made drug testing mandatory for all students, according to an article published on Oct. 10 in the New York Times.

Linn State Technical College informed its students they would be required to submit a urine test that would be checked for all illegal drugs as a requirement of enrolling there. I do not think this is a bad idea. (more…)

by Published: Oct 26, 2011

In the world of Division II women’s volleyball, there are not many teams which have shown the dominance that FSU has.

Probably because in the world of Division II women’s volleyball, there are not many teams with a player like FSU senior captain Lisa Tobiczyk on their roster.

“Lisa is a fantastic leader, she has diligently worked to hone her natural leadership instincts,” FSU head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm said. (more…)
