Smashing Watermelons for a Cause

Fraternity holding event to help hungry families

The Lambda Chi Alpha fra­ter­nity is putting on an event where stu­dents can smash water­mel­ons to feed the hungry.

Justin Price, pres­i­dent of Lambda Chi Alpha, said the 2011 Watermelon Bash is being held to ben­e­fit local food pantries. Price said the pantries in Big Rapids haven’t had enough food for the community.

Lambda Chi Alpha is work­ing with the North American Food Drive, who spon­sors the fra­ter­nity. The North American Food Drive donates over three mil­lion pounds of food to America. This is the first Watermelon Bash Lambda Chi Alpha is putting on. (more…)


Ferris State Volleyball vs Wisconsin-Parkside

The Ferris State Invitational women’s vol­ley­ball tour­na­ment con­tin­ued with Ferris State play­ing against Wisconsin-Parkside. Ferris State won 3–1 against the vis­it­ing team, allow­ing them to con­tinue their season-opening unde­feated streak.


Disc Golf in FLITE

The Disc Sports Club took over FLITE for “Bulldogs take FLITE III”, an 18-hole disc golf event through­out FLITE. Participants were given a minia­ture disc to play with as they tra­verse through­out FLITE, com­pet­ing in pairs. One pair, Brennan Billow and Jake Graveldinger, shot a 38 with three holes-in-one. Billow said of the event “Disrupting the silence of FLITE with disc golf was quite the experience.”

FSU upsets Hillsdale in home opener

The Ferris State University foot­ball team bat­tled back to defeat pre­sea­son nationally-ranked Hillsdale College 20–17 Friday night at Top Taggert Field.

FSU ral­lied back from a 17–7 third quar­ter deficit for the non­con­fer­ence vic­tory before a “Community Day” home opener crowd of 3,453 fans. (more…)


Mentalist Craig Karges

As one of Entertainment Unlimited’s first event of the year, Mentalist Craig Karges daz­zled a large crowd in a the Williams Auditorium with his per­for­mance. Karges enter­tained the crowd with being able to read the ser­ial num­ber of a dol­lar bill while blind­folded, mov­ing a table into the air with just his fin­ger­tips, and even read­ing the thoughts of the crowd. Founders’ Day Celebration

Out on the North Quad, Ferris State University cel­e­brated the 127th anniver­sary of its found­ing on Thursday. The event included free food and ice cream, booths by var­i­ous stu­dent groups and other cam­pus orga­ni­za­tions, and a vari­ety of activ­i­ties. Various inflat­a­bles were set up includ­ing laser tag, a bounce house, and sev­eral more. (more…)
