Smashing Watermelons for a Cause

Fraternity holding event to help hungry families

The Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity is putting on an event where students can smash watermelons to feed the hungry.

Justin Price, president of Lambda Chi Alpha, said the 2011 Watermelon Bash is being held to benefit local food pantries. Price said the pantries in Big Rapids haven’t had enough food for the community.

Lambda Chi Alpha is working with the North American Food Drive, who sponsors the fraternity. The North American Food Drive donates over three million pounds of food to America. This is the first Watermelon Bash Lambda Chi Alpha is putting on. (more…)

Ferris State Volleyball vs Wisconsin-Parkside

The Ferris State Invitational women’s volleyball tournament continued with Ferris State playing against Wisconsin-Parkside. Ferris State won 3–1 against the visiting team, allowing them to continue their season-opening undefeated streak.

Disc Golf in FLITE

The Disc Sports Club took over FLITE for “Bulldogs take FLITE III”, an 18-hole disc golf event throughout FLITE. Participants were given a miniature disc to play with as they traverse throughout FLITE, competing in pairs. One pair, Brennan Billow and Jake Graveldinger, shot a 38 with three holes-in-one. Billow said of the event “Disrupting the silence of FLITE with disc golf was quite the experience.”

Second Half Comeback

FSU upsets Hillsdale in home opener

The Ferris State University football team battled back to defeat preseason nationally-ranked Hillsdale College 20–17 Friday night at Top Taggert Field.

FSU rallied back from a 17–7 third quarter deficit for the nonconference victory before a “Community Day” home opener crowd of 3,453 fans. (more…)

Mentalist Craig Karges

As one of Entertainment Unlimited’s first event of the year, Mentalist Craig Karges dazzled a large crowd in a the Williams Auditorium with his performance. Karges entertained the crowd with being able to read the serial number of a dollar bill while blindfolded, moving a table into the air with just his fingertips, and even reading the thoughts of the crowd. Founders’ Day Celebration

Out on the North Quad, Ferris State University celebrated the 127th anniversary of its founding on Thursday. The event included free food and ice cream, booths by various student groups and other campus organizations, and a variety of activities. Various inflatables were set up including laser tag, a bounce house, and several more. (more…)
