Ferris history instructor publishes book

Ferris State University Professor Christian Peterson recently had a book published.

Peterson’s book, “Globalizing Human Rights: Private Citizens, the Soviet Union, and the West,” was published by Routledge in September. The book focuses on the role that human rights played in U.S. Soviet relations during the 1970s and 1980s.

Peterson said he spent a year researching and traveling to multiple national archives, including the archives of former U.S. presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. He said his book adds complexities to one of the most pivotal events in the 20th century, which consists of private citizens to petition government, which can affect change.

In addition, Peterson said he has always had an interest in this period of history and a desire to improve understanding of the time period covered.

Additional information is available about Peterson on the Ferris website and information about his book is available at Routledge.com.
