FSU men’s golfer earns GLIAC weekly honor
Sophomore Trent Davison was recently honored as the GLIAC Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week. Davison tied for second place overall in a field of 135 competitors as he led the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Fall Midwest Regional (Sept. 25–26). He was just three strokes behind the tournament champions as he recorded two rounds of 72 to finish at 144 overall.
Women’s tennis match postponed
The Ferris State University women’s tennis team was forced to postpone their Sept. 30 match against GLIAC rival Grand Valley State University. The match was postponed due to a power outage on campus which affected the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center. Due to weather conditions, the match could not be played outdoors. As of press time, the match has not yet been rescheduled.
Men’s ice hockey picked to finish seventh in CCHA
On Sept. 28, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) released their annual preseason polls. FSU was selected to finish tied for seventh by the league’s media and ninth by the league’s coaches. Notre Dame holds the top spot in both polls while Bowling Green was picked to finish at the bottom of the 11-team conference by the coaches and media alike.
FSU football player garners GLIAC recognition
FSU junior defensive end Cody Groulx earned GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his play against Tiffin Sept. 24. With the Bulldogs trailing the Dragons 7–3 late in the first quarter, Groulx blocked a Tiffin punt and recovered it in the endzone for his first career touchdown. FSU went on to claim a 48–13 conference victory. This marks the second consecutive week a Bulldog player earned the league honor. Freshman kicker Victor Bodrie received the award the previous week for his five-field goal collegiate debut against Ohio Dominican.
Early registration for fitness classes now open
The FSU Racquet and Fitness Center recently opened registration for the second session fitness classes to individuals with an active membership card or an active student ID card. The early registration period began Sept. 27 and will last until Oct. 9, at which point registration will be open to everyone. Those registering early will receive a 20 percent discount if they sign-up for two classes a week and a 25 percent discount if they sign-up for three classes a week. Full payment must be received at time of registration. Classes offered include Zumba and spinning. Call ext. 2212 for complete class schedules.
