As the summer season begins to die down, we all hope that memories from it will survive

Music helps to bring recollections of summer back into mind. Hearing a song that you fell in love with during the warm and free season stirs up memories that can help get you through your fall days filled with classes, studying, registered student organization meetings, work, and sports practices. Below, a few students share their songs of summer 2011:

Chelsea Chapin, Criminal Justice
Song Title: “Rolling in the Deep”
Artist: Adele

“This song was on when I got in my car to go anywhere or leave anywhere. It also played in almost any store I visited.”
ALSO
Song Title: “Party Rock Anthem”
Artist: LMFAO

“Whenever it was on, I was with friends having an awesome summer adventure!”

Danielle Leisner, Communications
Song Title: “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”
Artist: Katy Perry

“I love this song because of Team Bonding Tuesdays with Orientation Leaders this summer.”

Laura Wroblewski, Social Studies Education
Song Title: “Party Rock Athem”
Artist: LMFAO

“This is a fun, upbeat song that got played a lot during a warm summer night when friends and I were just hanging out. And the fact that it recently just came out and it’s fairly new means it gets played a lot, but I have yet to get sick of it! It’s a good song to just dance all ‘crazy-like’ to!”

Stephanie Demarest, Graphic Design

Song Title: “Pumped Up Kicks”
Artist: Foster the People

“It’s got a sweet beat.”

Morgan Kramerich, Elementary Education
Song Title: “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”
Artist: Jake Owen

“It’s just a fun song and my summer has been a blast! I had so many good times going out with my friends and taking advantage of being able to be
outdoors!”

Adam Cieslinski, Pre-Optometery
Song Title: “Don’t Stop Me Now”
Artist: Queen

“I sort of wanted to pick a song with deep personal motifs intertwined within the lyrics instead of meaning derived merely from the surface. But then, for once in my life, I realized life doesn’t always have to be that complicated. This summer’s theme was having fun and living it up while I escaped the books for a few months. Plain and simple. I let down my walls, ignored any obstacles, and just had lots of fun with my friends! It was a previously unvisited level of freedom, and I don’t want it to end. The most relevant verse is the intro, which reads:

“Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world, it’s turning inside out, yeah!
I’m floating around in ecstasy
So don’t stop me now, don’t stop me
‘Cause I’m having a good time, having a good time”
