Ferris defeats Michigan Tech in semifinals

The Ferris State men’s bas­ket­ball team defeated Michigan Tech 73–64 on its home floor on Saturday to advance to the GLIAC Championship game.

The Bulldogs have not hosted the con­fer­ence tour­na­ment semi­fi­nals and final game since the 1994–95 sea­son. Ferris has not claimed the GLIAC Tournament Championship since the 1997–98 sea­son.

Eight Bulldog play­ers scored at least five points in the vic­tory. Senior guard Matt DeHart and sopho­more guard Kenny Brown led the Bulldogs with 13 points each.

Ferris closed the first half with a 16–7 run to take a 38–30 lead into half­time. The Bulldogs trailed by 44–40 after a strong start to the sec­ond half by the Huskies. However, Ferris regained the lead with 12:42 left in the game and never relinquished.

Ferris forced 18 turnovers in the game, while the Huskies out­re­bounded the Bulldogs 37–31.

With the vic­tory, Ferris advanced to the con­fer­ence title game for the first time since the 2005-06 sea­son. Ferris will play either Findlay or Wayne State on March 6 at 2 p.m. in the GLIAC Championship game.
