Automobile accident ends in tragedy

Ferris stu­dent Erik E. Williams, a 19-year-old Howard City res­i­dent, died on Oct. 14 at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.

Williams was in his sec­ond year of the Pre-Criminal Justice Program in the College of Education and Human Services. He grad­u­ated from Ludington High School in 2009. (more…)

The Bulldogs lost a heart­breaker to Northern Michigan on Saturday to end a five-game win­ning streak head­ing into this weekend’s matchup against unde­feated Grand Valley.

Ferris is 5–2 over­all and 5–1 in GLIAC play fol­low­ing its first con­fer­ence loss of the sea­son. The Bulldogs are tied for sec­ond in the con­fer­ence with Hillsdale, behind only 7–0 Grand Valley State. (more…)

Bulldogs sweep home-opening series against St. Lawrence

The Bulldogs swept St. Lawrence over the week­end behind an offen­sive explo­sion from senior cen­ter Nate Hennig and two strong out­ings from senior goalie Pat Nagle.

Ferris opened the home sched­ule on Friday with a 4–2 deci­sion over the Saints. Sophomore right wing Matthew Kirzinger posted the first goal of the night and his first on the sea­son before St. Lawrence tied it at 1–1 with 3:48 left in the first period.

The upcom­ing art instal­la­tion at the Rankin Center Art Gallery promises to daz­zle stu­dents, fac­ulty, and the Ferris com­mu­nity into a maze of thought and wonder.

The “Labyrinth” exhibit is a col­lec­tion of blown glass cre­ated by a col­lab­o­ra­tive team of artists that include Matthew McCormack and Jenn Figg. (more…)

The Bulldogs bat­tled to a 1–1 tie against Lewis on Tuesday.

With the first 45 min­utes end­ing in a score­less tie, Bulldog sopho­more Kasey Ruimveld net­ted her sec­ond goal of the sea­son to pull Ferris ahead 1–0 at the 69:01 mark in the sec­ond half. (more…)

 
 

Funeral Held for Ferris Student

Funeral ser­vices will be held Oct. 19 for Ferris stu­dent Erik E. Williams.

Williams, whose death occurred Oct. 14, was enrolled in the pre-criminal jus­tice pro­gram in the College of Education and Human Services.

The funeral ser­vices will be located at Oak Grove funeral home in Ludington. Family has agreed to greet friends on Oct. 18 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and on Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

According to deputy reports, Williams, along with pas­sen­ger Shane Johnson, was dri­ving in Mecosta County when their vehi­cle drove off the road and hit a tree. The acci­dent hap­pened Thursday morn­ing at 183rd Ave. and Garfield road.

Johnson is cur­rently in crit­i­cal con­di­tion at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

In honor of Williams, the Ferris flag will be low­ered to half staff Oct. 19.

 
 
 
 

Rude

Take the time to show your fellow citizen some common courtesy

I feel that I am a pretty even keel indi­vid­ual; it is pretty hard to get me riled up.

With that said, your every­day com­mon rude­ness really gets me mad. The rea­son is that in most sit­u­a­tions where peo­ple are rude are spawned from pure thought­less­ness and a total dis­re­gard for other peo­ple. (more…)

 
 

Ferris State Dean Dies

Ferris State Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Ellen J. Haneline, died unex­pect­edly today.

Haneline’s fam­ily includes daugh­ters Beth and Joellen, as well as hus­band Dr. Douglas L. Haneline, Professor of Languages and Literature.

Currently, funeral arrange­ments are incom­plete. However, Birkam Health Center is offer­ing coun­sel­ing ser­vices to fac­ulty, stu­dents and staff.
