Junior defensemen Zach Redmond scored the game-winning goal for the No. 8 nationally ranked Ferris hockey team with 24 seconds remaining to beat Michigan.
Redmond took a pass from senior left wing Blair Riley and was able to get the puck past Michigan goaltender Bryan Hogan to break a 2–2 tie and ultimately give the Bulldogs the win.

“We stayed disciplined and played hardnosed hockey and with a little luck I was able to find the back of the net,” said Redmond.
Ferris struck first as senior Casey Haines cashed in off a turnover at 6:20 of the first period with a short-handed goal to give the Bulldogs an early 1–0 advantage.

After arriving in Big Rapids Thursday afternoon, the members of Theory of a Deadman decided to get out on the ice at the Ewigleben Sports Complex and shoot some pucks around.
The Canadian rock band, known as TOAD for short, came to Ferris to headline the annual January Jams show. Dean Back, the band’s bassist, is no stranger to having some fun before a show after tours with bands like Motley Crue and Daughtry.
“The whole summer with Motley Crue was a blast,” said Back. “Most of those guys have settled down, but Tommy [Lee] is still crazy.”
Back shared a story about Lee shooting off fireworks from his tour bus after getting bored.

The nationally No. 8-ranked Ferris hockey team could be without two key athletes this weekend against Michigan.
Senior Bulldog captain Cody Chupp suffered a hip injury during Saturday’s contest against Miami. He was taken to the hospital, where X-rays came back negative. Ferris head coach Bob Daniels said Chupp did not practice Monday or Tuesday. Daniels said Chupp may play this weekend, but he will not make a final decision until Friday morning.
“It’s going to be close,” said Daniels, “Certainly if he doesn’t play this weekend, I fully expect him to be ready for the two games at Ohio State.”

Through 24 games, the Bulldogs are 16−6−2 overall and 10−4−2−2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). Ferris and Miami were tied for first in the CCHA standings prior to the series and now the Bulldogs trail Miami by six points. (more…)
Driving in Michigan between November and April can often be treacherous; with the economic downturn and budget cuts, this winter is worse than ever.
Obviously the unpredictable, uncontrollable weather is the influencing factor in the condition of the roads. History gives us a good indication that it will indeed be snowy and icy in Michigan during these winter months.
When storms come out of nowhere and cover the roads, it is understandable that trucks are working hard and cannot possibly clear every road. However, when a huge storm is predicted a few days in advance and there are no salt trucks preparing the roads, then we have a problem. (more…)

Thomson, became interested in brewing beer in graduate school. A member of his research group from Wisconsin was a home-brewer. He brought his beer to meetings and the delicious taste of the homemade beer sparked Thomson’s interest.
The main thing that pushed Thomson’s toward brewing was his wife. “I came home one day when we lived in New Orleans and she had bought all the stuff [brewing materials] and it was just sitting out on the front room floor,” said Thomson. “I don’t know what made her decide to do that; I guess you would have to ask her. I’m really glad she did, though.” (more…)
In the spring 2010 semester, Ian Mathison, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, said the pharmacy program has not lost students due to the cut of the Michigan Promise Scholarship.
“The difference is due to students changing their program of study,” said Mathison.
In the fall 2009 semester, 552 students were enrolled in the Pharmacy program. This semester, 548 students are currently enrolled. Mathiason said another cause for the decrease is a number of students graduated in December 2009. (more…)
