Cooking fire causes evacuation of North Bond Hall, no injuries reported

Emergency response teams were called to “full response” when the fire alarm in North Bond Hall was trig­gered on the sec­ond floor April 29.

Students stood in the chilly night air while fire fight­ers and police offi­cers secured the area.

“The whole build­ing was evac­u­ated,” said Niketa Patel, a senior in den­tal hygiene. “It was all smoky.” Patel believed the event occurred around 10:15–10:20 p.m. (more…)

Ferris Fest per­form­ers enjoyed their oppor­tu­nity to play at Ferris State University this past Saturday.

A crowd cov­ered the quad on Saturday as var­i­ous musi­cal acts per­formed through­out the day. Students and com­mu­nity mem­bers enjoyed free food, free tat­toos and activ­i­ties, a dunk tank, and the chance to meet some of the acts and get their auto­graph. (more…)

Drivers may soon be adding tex­ting to their list of ille­gal things to do behind the wheel.

With a vote of 74–33, the State House recently passed a bill that allows police to stop and ticket dri­vers they sus­pect to be read­ing or typ­ing text mes­sages on a hand-held cell phone. (more…)

Bulldogs win three of four games against nationally ranked opponents

The Ferris State soft­ball team answered a tough chal­lenge over the week­end as they won three of four games against two ranked opponents.

Ferris head coach Keri Becker feels that her team’s con­sis­tency is a big rea­son why the Bulldogs were able to have this late sea­son success.

“I am very happy com­ing away 3–1 from the week­end,” said Becker. “We played really well and we could have eas­ily been 4–0.” (more…)

A society once built on hard work has lost its traditional ways

In a time when jobs are scarce, hard work and deter­mi­na­tion are more impor­tant than ever, but seem to be lack­ing from this generation.

The United States of America was built on the foun­da­tion of hard work and a “do-it-yourself” atti­tude. It is the very rea­son we have rags to riches sto­ries about peo­ple grow­ing up in a poor house­hold and becom­ing Harvard grad­u­ates. If you work hard, you will be rewarded for it. (more…)

RSO Helps Abandoned Pets Find New Homes

Pet Savers, a reg­is­tered stu­dent orga­ni­za­tion called Pet Savers has been formed on cam­pus by Professor Cate Arroe and now has a mem­ber­ship of 15 stu­dents who wish to stem the tide of pet aban­don­ment and help find them homes. Cate Arroe has led an effort to stop the trend of student-owned dogs being aban­doned at the end of the year.

“I have heard hor­ror sto­ries about stu­dents aban­don­ing their pets at parks or in apart­ments or at the local shel­ter,” said Arroe. (more…)

After three straight second-place fin­ishes, the Bulldog men’s golf team nabbed a tour­na­ment vic­tory at the Fossum Invitational at Michigan State over the weekend.

With its last tour­na­ment vic­tory being in the fall sea­son, a first-place fin­ish at the Wayne State Motor City Invite in October, Ferris finally got over the hump by fir­ing a final round low of 289 on its way to an 879-stroke first-place tie with host Michigan State. Ferris was one of seven teams tak­ing part in the three-round tour­na­ment at the Forrest Akers West Golf Course. (more…)

 
 
 

The Best Is Yet to Come

My under­grad­u­ate career at Ferris has been many things.

I’ve enjoyed my time and had dif­fi­cult sit­u­a­tions to deal with. I’ve learned and grown, stum­bled and righted myself. It has been a process of ongo­ing improve­ment. (more…)
