FSU Victories Over Notre Dame Tie Bulldogs at No.1 With Miami in CCHA
The Ferris State hockey team improved its unbeaten streak to 12 games in conference play with a sweep of Notre Dame.
Five different players scored for the Bulldogs as they outshot the Fighting Irish 31–20 in a 5–2 victory on Saturday. Junior forward Mike Embach recorded a goal and two assist for Ferris. Four other players added two points in the victory. (more…)
Buzzer Beater Puts Bulldogs Over SVSU Cardinals
The Ferris State women’s basketball team won a pair of one-point games over the weekend in dramatic fashion.
The Bulldogs defeated Lake Superior State 60–59 after sophomore Kelsey DeNoyelles hit two free throws with 35 seconds left in the game. The Bulldogs shot 51 percent from the floor, while holding the Lakers to just 31.6 percent shooting.
On Saturday, Freshman Kylie Muntz hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat Saginaw Valley State 61–60. The Bulldogs trailed by 13 in the second half, but rallied with 24 points in games’ final 10 minutes.
Ferris improved to 4–8 overall and 3–4 in the conference this season. The Bulldogs travel to Allendale tomorrow to battle rival Grand Valley State. The team dropped its first contest against the Lakers 57–43 earlier this season.
FSU Men’s Basketball Falls in Weekend Contests
The Ferris State men’s basketball team allowed 167 points in two conference losses over the weekend.
After holding a slim halftime lead in the first contest, Ferris was outscored 53 to 26 the rest of the game and lost 81–55 at the hands of Lake Superior State. The Lakers had four players with double-digit point totals and shot 64 percent from the field in the second half.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs lost 86–72 to Saginaw Valley State for their second consecutive home loss. The Cardinals outscored the Bulldogs by 19 points in the second half to cruise to victory. As a team, Ferris shot just 36.8 percent from the field.
The Bulldogs fell to 6–6 overall and 4–3 in the conference this season. Ferris plays at rival Grand Valley State tomorrow at 8 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated the Lakers by 26 points in a contest earlier this season.
Bulldogs Finish Third in Showdown
The nationally No. 11-ranked Ferris State hockey team finished third in the 21st annual Badger Hockey Showdown splitting two games.
On Saturday, Ferris lost 6–1 to Yale University after trailing only 2–1 entering the third period. Senior forward Casey Haines scored in the first period to tie the game at 1–1. Yale scored five unanswered goals, including four in the third period, to cruise to victory.
Ferris was outshot 41–24 in the game and went 0 for 5 on its power play opportunities. Yale scored on two of its five power play chances and goalie Jeff Malcolm saved 23 of the 24 shots he faced. Senior forward Blair Riley said the team was a little rusty coming off of the long break.
“They have a very good offensive team and play a strong puck possession style that seemed to frustrate our team on a bigger sheet at the Wisconsin rink,” said Riley. (more…)
