FSU Victories Over Notre Dame Tie Bulldogs at No.1 With Miami in CCHA

The Ferris State hockey team improved its unbeaten streak to 12 games in con­fer­ence play with a sweep of Notre Dame.

Five dif­fer­ent play­ers scored for the Bulldogs as they out­shot the Fighting Irish 31–20 in a 5–2 vic­tory on Saturday. Junior for­ward Mike Embach recorded a goal and two assist for Ferris. Four other play­ers added two points in the vic­tory. (more…)

 
 

Buzzer Beater Puts Bulldogs Over SVSU Cardinals

The Ferris State women’s bas­ket­ball team won a pair of one-point games over the week­end in dra­matic fashion.

The Bulldogs defeated Lake Superior State 60–59 after sopho­more Kelsey DeNoyelles hit two free throws with 35 sec­onds left in the game. The Bulldogs shot 51 per­cent from the floor, while hold­ing the Lakers to just 31.6 per­cent shooting.

On Saturday, Freshman Kylie Muntz hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat Saginaw Valley State 61–60. The Bulldogs trailed by 13 in the sec­ond half, but ral­lied with 24 points in games’ final 10 minutes.

Ferris improved to 4–8 over­all and 3–4 in the con­fer­ence this sea­son. The Bulldogs travel to Allendale tomor­row to bat­tle rival Grand Valley State. The team dropped its first con­test against the Lakers 57–43 ear­lier this season.

 
 

FSU Men’s Basketball Falls in Weekend Contests

The Ferris State men’s bas­ket­ball team allowed 167 points in two con­fer­ence losses over the weekend.

After hold­ing a slim half­time lead in the first con­test, Ferris was outscored 53 to 26 the rest of the game and lost 81–55 at the hands of Lake Superior State. The Lakers had four play­ers with double-digit point totals and shot 64 per­cent from the field in the sec­ond half.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs lost 86–72 to Saginaw Valley State for their sec­ond con­sec­u­tive home loss. The Cardinals outscored the Bulldogs by 19 points in the sec­ond half to cruise to vic­tory. As a team, Ferris shot just 36.8 per­cent from the field.

The Bulldogs fell to 6–6 over­all and 4–3 in the con­fer­ence this sea­son. Ferris plays at rival Grand Valley State tomor­row at 8 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated the Lakers by 26 points in a con­test ear­lier this season.

 
 

Bulldogs Finish Third in Showdown

The nation­ally No. 11-ranked Ferris State hockey team fin­ished third in the 21st annual Badger Hockey Showdown split­ting two games.

On Saturday, Ferris lost 6–1 to Yale University after trail­ing only 2–1 enter­ing the third period. Senior for­ward Casey Haines scored in the first period to tie the game at 1–1. Yale scored five unan­swered goals, includ­ing four in the third period, to cruise to victory.

Ferris was out­shot 41–24 in the game and went 0 for 5 on its power play oppor­tu­ni­ties. Yale scored on two of its five power play chances and goalie Jeff Malcolm saved 23 of the 24 shots he faced. Senior for­ward Blair Riley said the team was a lit­tle rusty com­ing off of the long break.

“They have a very good offen­sive team and play a strong puck pos­ses­sion style that seemed to frus­trate our team on a big­ger sheet at the Wisconsin rink,” said Riley. (more…)
