The GLIAC offices announced the 2010 All-GLIAC Football team last Wednesday, including 10 Bulldog football players.

Players are chosen for the All-GLAIC Team by votes given by the league’s head coaches.

Senior linebacker Matt Ryan was the first Bulldog appointed to the All-GLIAC team, being chosen for the first team.

“He was a captain elected by his teammates, and led us in tackles for two straight years and made bug plays at critical times in games,” said Ferris defensive coordinator Duane Wilson. “He stayed healthy and started 22 straight games and performed at a very high level. His recognition is based on other coaches voting for him.”

This is Ryan’s second consecutive season on the All-GLIAC team, as he was named to the second team last year. He was ranked third this year in Division II in tackles, tallying 11.6 tackles per game. Ryan had 56 solo hits along with 72 assists.

Second-team picks for the Bulldogs were junior center Jake Hancock, senior defensive tackle Jacob Moreno, and sophomore defensive end Jordan Morgan. Moreno tied for fourth in the league for sacks and was the third leading tackler for the Bulldogs with 61. Morgan was third in the league in total sacks and tied for tenth in tackles.

Other honorable mentions picked for the All-GLIAC team were senior offensive lineman Scott Shattuck, senior safety Chad Wilson, junior receiver Mike Ryan, junior cornerback William Miles, junior quarterback Tom Schneider, and sophomore defensive end Brad Iskow.

“It feels good,” said Ryan. “It’s an honor to be recognized by the GLIAC. This past season is a good stepping-stone for us. We did some good things offensively and defensively. There’s a lot of room for improvement though.”

Ferris ended its season with a 5–6 overall record and broke even in the conference at 5–5.

“It showed that we have made improvements from a year ago and that other coaches recognize our talent,” said Wilson. “In the last five games we could have been 4–1 instead of 0–5 if we would have made a few more plays, which shows that we are getting back to being competitive every week. Hopefully it helps in recruiting and build support from our fans and alumni,” said Wilson. n
