Both the men’s and women’s Cross Country teams placed within the top ten in the GLIAC Championship last weekend.

The women’s team had a very strong fin­ish­ing, plac­ing sec­ond just behind Grand Valley. As a team they had 83 points. Senior Tina Muir placed third in the 6k race with a time of 21:27.9, just behind two GVSU con­tenders. Sophomore Alyssa Osika took 18^th place and senior Paige Onweller took 20^th, shortly behind her fin­ished sopho­more Anna Rudd in 22^nd.

The men’s team fared decently as it claimed the 8^th over­all spot with 213 points. Finishing first for the Bulldogs was Sophomore Michael Schulte, who took 32^nd place with a time of 26:23.9 in the 8k race.

Coming in behind him was fresh­man David Silversmith in 35^th, sopho­more Ryan Chute in 39^th, and fresh­man Bill King in 61^st. Rounding out the top 70 for the Bulldogs was sopho­more Andrew Campbell in 65^th and senior Derek Childs in 70^th.

“We worked more as a team in this meet more than any other meet and that helped us out a lot,” said Chute. “This meet was con­fer­ences so it was a bit more seri­ous and so we ran more focused. The team improves meet to meet and I’m excited for region­als in two weeks so we can con­tinue to improve.”

The Bulldogs will com­pete again in the NCAA-II Midwest Regional com­pe­ti­tion on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Louisville, Ky. n
