Beach Savvy

Visiting a beach in Michigan is a must

by Published: Jun 21, 2010

Nothing says summer more than the feeling of sand between your toes and the sound of water lapping on the beach.

As summer begins, many students find hours of extra time on their hands. A great way to spend their newly-acquired free time is with a trip to a Michigan beach.A trip to a beach requires a few essential things: sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays, sunscreen or suntan lotion, a swimsuit, an umbrella for shade, towels, and a packed lunch.

According to consumersearch.com, consumers agree that Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 55 is the overall best sunscreen. This product promises to protect against short– and long-wave UVA rays, which are responsible for long-term skin damage. Neutrogena claims this sunscreen will neither run into the eyes nor sweat or towel off. It is important to reapply sunscreen every five hours after swimming or heavy sweating.

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim shows for 2010 displayed a wide array of colorful swim attire. Toss those boring neutral swimsuits away and add a splash of color to your look; let exciting colors run rampant on your new bathing suit.

Michigan offers dozens of incredible beaches; choosing just one can be a difficult decision. If you’re looking for a pristine and clean beach to go to with the family, check out the beaches in Muskegon. If you’re looking for activities outside of the water, check out the rocks and stones on the beaches of Ludington.

Erica Asaro, freshman in pre-pharmacy, says that Sleeping Bear Dunes in Empire, Mich. is her favorite beach.

“One year, my family and I climbed all of the dunes; it took about two hours,” said Asaro. “When we finally got to Lake Michigan, the water was clear and refreshing and was the most perfect beach I’ve ever seen.”

Asaro said that going to the beach is a perfect beginning to a relaxing summer.
