Hacking Attempt

An unauthorized account was created on the Ferris computer system in an apparent attempt to hack the school’s servers.

The account was noticed and deleted by university staff the same day it was created, Monday, March 22.

There is no apparent reason to think student information was affected, according to Leah Nixon, assistant director of news services at Ferris. Letters have been mailed to individuals with information on the server alerting them to the situation.

“Only the students who were on the server and may have been affected by this were notified,” said Nixon. “There was no university-wide announcement.”

Nixon said the FBI was called as a standard procedure in matters of computer networks being hacked.

The affected server has been removed from the network.

The investigation is still underway. There are no suspects at this time.
