Bulldog women finish sixth, men eighth at GLIAC Championships

The Ferris indoor track teams took part in the 2010 GLIAC Championships with the women plac­ing sixth and the men fin­ish­ing eighth.

In the com­pe­ti­tion, which was held at Grand Valley State’s Laker Turf Building, the Ferris women tal­lied 19 points while the men accu­mu­lated 25 points in over­all team com­pe­ti­tion. Host Grand Valley claimed both the men’s and women’s titles in the competition.

For the women, the fresh­men led the way as Bulldog fresh­man Anna Rudd claimed fourth place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:40:71, which sur­passed the national pro­vi­sional qual­i­fy­ing stan­dard. Rudd also placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:14:91.

Ferris fresh­man Alyssa Osika also had a national pro­vi­sional qual­i­fy­ing time in the mile run with a time of 5:02:29, while fresh­man Shelby Janutol fin­ished eighth with a time of 5:10:53.

Senior Emily Cross fin­ished sixth in both the 60-meter hur­dles and the high jump.

On the men’s side, senior pole-vaulter Greg Burns claimed an indi­vid­ual con­fer­ence cham­pi­onship with an effort of 4.96 meters, a per­for­mance that topped the national qual­i­fy­ing mark while also set­ting the school’s new indoor record.

Senior Mike Mangieri took home sec­ond for the Bulldogs in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:35:53, while also plac­ing sev­enth in the 5,000 meter run with a 14:47:78 mark.

Sophomore Justin Price added a fourth place fin­ish in the 400 meter run after com­ing in at 49:03 seconds.

Up next for the national qual­i­fiers for Ferris will be the NCAA-II Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 12–13 in Albuquerque, N.M.
