“The East Campus Suites project is right on sched­ule,” said Jon Shaffer, Director of Housing and Residence Life.

The project is right on bud­get as well. “They’re going just as well as I could hope,” Shaffer said of the progress on the suites.

The new suites are set to open in the fall of 2010. The project for the new suites began dur­ing the fall 2009 semes­ter. Shaffer said they are shoot­ing for Wednesday, Aug. 25 as the open­ing date.

“Construction of the build­ings will be done at the end of May. By July, all three build­ings will be com­pletely fin­ished. Other build­ings may be delayed two to five days,” said Shaffer. “When they get started in the fall depends on when they will be fin­ished this spring.”

In June, there will be an open house in the suites.

“Folks will be able to come in and ask ques­tions,” said Shaffer.

During the fall 2009 semes­ter, there was a con­test to come up with a name for the new suites. Shaffer said a name was cho­sen and will have to go to President Eisler’s office and the Board of Trustees to gain approval.

“No one came up with the exact name,” said Shaffer. The panel used two stu­dents’ ideas. If those ideas get cho­sen, the two stu­dents will get first pick of the suites.

Shaffer said the stu­dents have been informed that they are the win­ners. “Once the names [for the suites] are approved, we’ll send out a noti­fi­ca­tion on cam­pus,” he said.

There is a vir­tual tour avail­able of the inside of the suites on Ferris’ web­site, includ­ing inter­nal views of the main lobby, two/four bed­room suites, laun­dry room and exter­nal views of the buildings.

Information for sign­ing up to live in the East Campus Suites is avail­able on the web­site fsuech​.com.

“We put a lot of infor­ma­tion on the web­site,” said Shaffer.

As for the cost of rent, Shaffer said there is not yet infor­ma­tion available.

“We’re still work­ing out the details, but all of the rates are approved by the Board of Trustees,” said Shaffer.

Shaffer said he gives a tes­ta­ment to Tower & Pinkster and Granger Construction for con­struct­ing the East Campus Suites.
