CCHA Scenarios for FSU Hockey

Tonight and tomorrow's games against Western Michigan could have an impact on where the team will land in the CCHA post-season.

by Published: Feb 26, 2010

As Ferris suits up to play their final regular season games Friday and Saturday night, the Bulldogs will still need to be aware of what may lie ahead of them in the CCHA post-season.

Miami locked up the No. 1 seed in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association two weeks ago, but the second through fourth seeds are still open.

Ferris State and Michigan State remained tied for second in the CCHA with 46 points after splitting their series last weekend. The Bulldogs battle Western Michigan in a home-and-home series and the Spartans play Bowling Green State in the final two games of the season.

Alaska is fourth in the conference with 45 points and Nebraska-Omaha is fifth with 44 points. Nebraska-Omaha and Alaska have completed their conference seasons and cannot advance their positions. Ferris cannot finish worse than fifth or better than second in the CCHA standings.

by Published: Feb 24, 2010

Helen Degen Cohen, Miriam Brysk and John Guzlowski’s lives became intertwined after the Holocaust through artistic expression.

These three survivors of the Holocaust are part of a series of events beginning tonight to discuss art in relation with their experiences during the Holocaust.

Holocaust Art: A Panel Discussion of Art, Literature, and Music is the event that brings these three artists to Big Rapids as a part of the “Art in the Holocaust” series in the Festival of Arts. Can You Hear Me, Finally?

Ferris senior enjoys a cell phone for the first time

by Published: Feb 24, 2010

Making the Connection: Steve Linebaugh, a Ferris senior, adds contacts to his very first cell phone. Friends are pleased that they can now call Linebaugh, though his move was also motivated by the need to communicate with potential employers. Photo By: Kristyn Sonnenberg | Photo Editor

In today’s world of quick texts and emoticons, Steve Linebaugh is one of the few students new to the social norm of having a cell phone.

A 2006 graduate of Belding High School, Linebaugh went the majority of his college career at Ferris phoneless. Using online networking Web sites such as MySpace and Facebook, Linebaugh still remained able to keep in close contact with both family and friends. (more…)

Goodbye Face-to-Face, Hello Facebook

Social media can decrease our communication abilities

by Published: Feb 24, 2010

Texting, Facebooking and Tweeting have opened many borders in terms of communication, and the “technirevolution” just keeps expanding.

Being a journalism student, it has come to my realization that it is at times easier to contact a source on Facebook for a story. Phone calls and e-mails are not always answered as quickly as a Facebook message. (more…)

Go Far With Ferris

Ferris State University offers more than just a quality education

by Published: Feb 24, 2010

Ferris State University complements its education with job experience opportunities not often found at oversized universities.

Any college student understands that high grades are valuable toward attaining a desirable job upon graduation. Academics are not the only attribute employers are looking for, however. An internship or work experience of some kind is more often than not what sets one student apart from another. (more…)
