“How to Get Fired”

Speaker Jeff Havens comes to campus with career advice

by Published: Jan 27, 2010

Speaker, comedian, and author Jeff Havens will be coming to campus to present his lecture entitled “How to get Fired!”

Havens graduated as a Phi Beta Kappa from Vanderbilt University. He originally began his career as a high school English teacher, but soon followed his father into the world of stand-up comedy.

His love of teaching never diminished, so Havens began searching for a way to combine his passion for teaching and his sense of humor.  The results: two presentations called “How to get Fired!” and “Uncrapify your Life!”

In his lecture “How to get Fired!”, Havens discusses the Four Pillars of Poverty: fake your resume, establish your incompetence, destroy your work ethic, and alienate your coworkers.  According to jeffhavens.com, this is “the only lecture guaranteed to ensure that you never become a productive member of society.”

Havens has presented his humorous programs to hundreds of corporations and colleges across the United States and Canada; such places include Ford Motor Company, General Electric, and Purdue.

Sometime this year, Havens is scheduled to make his first appearance on Comedy Central. He will be performing original stand-up comedy.

This free 5-star event will be taking place on Jan. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m in Williams Auditorium. For more information, contact Entertainment Unlimited at EU@ferris.edu. ν
