The nationally No. 8-ranked Ferris hockey team could be without two key athletes this weekend against Michigan.

Senior Bulldog captain Cody Chupp suffered a hip injury during Saturday’s contest against Miami. He was taken to the hospital, where X-rays came back negative. Ferris head coach Bob Daniels said Chupp did not practice Monday or Tuesday. Daniels said Chupp may play this weekend, but he will not make a final decision until Friday morning.

“It’s going to be close,” said Daniels, “Certainly if he doesn’t play this weekend, I fully expect him to be ready for the two games at Ohio State.”

Junior defenseman Scott Wietecha was also injured against Miami and is questionable for this weekend as well.  Daniels said Wietecha was one day ahead of Chupp in terms of practicing this week, but will wait until Friday to make a final decision.

“He has to be cleared by the trainers and doctors,” said Daniels, “They get the final call on all of that.”

Ferris plays the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Friday at 8:05 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday at 8:05 p.m. in Big Rapids.
