Bulldog Hockey Swept Away

The nation­ally No. 6-ranked Bulldog hockey team was swept by No. 2-ranked Miami (Ohio) fol­low­ing a 5–4 loss on Saturday.

Ferris took a 2–1 lead in the sec­ond period, but Miami scored four unan­swered goals to take a 5–2 lead mid­way through the third period. The Bulldogs fought back as senior cen­ter Aaron Lewicki and fresh­man for­ward Matthew Kirzinger scored goals late in the game. Ferris was unable to tie the game and was swept for the first time at home this season.

The Bulldogs fell to 16−6−2 over­all and 10−4−2−2 in the con­fer­ence this sea­son. Ferris, tied for first in the con­fer­ence prior to the series, is in third place in the CCHA stand­ings with 34 points. Michigan State moved into sec­ond with 35 points after a shootout win over Notre Dame and Miami is out in front with 40 points.

Senior cap­tain Cody Chupp suf­fered a hip injury late in the sec­ond period and was taken to the hos­pi­tal for x-rays. No seri­ous injuries were reported, but spe­cific infor­ma­tion regard­ing his playa­bil­ity was not avail­able at press time.

Next week­end, the Bulldogs play the University of Michigan in a home-and-home series. The Wolverines are cur­rently sixth in the CCHA are com­ing off a win and shootout loss against Alaska. The teams will play in Ann Arbor on Friday and then in Big Rapids on Saturday. Both games are sched­uled to begin at 8:05 p.m.
