Bulldogs Dominated by RedHawks in Shutout

In the open­ing game of the series, nation­ally No. 2-ranked Miami shutout the No. 6-ranked Ferris State hockey team 4–0.

The largest crowd of the sea­son of 2,277 peo­ple was on hand to watch the Bulldogs and RedHawks bat­tle for the top spot in the CCHA.

Miami out­shot Ferris 38–23 in the game. Sophomore goalie Cody Reichard earned his first shut of the sea­son and improved his nation-leading goals against aver­age to 1.36 this sea­son. Junior goal­tender Pat Nagle stopped 34 shots for the Bulldogs.

With the loss, Ferris saw its 11-game home win­ning streak snapped. The streak was tied for the longest home win­ning streak to start a sea­son in school his­tory. The Bulldogs’ unbeaten con­fer­ence streak of 12 games also came to an end.

The RedHawks took sole pos­ses­sion of first place in the CCHA with 37 points. Ferris is in sec­ond with 34 points after Michigan State dropped a 5–2 deci­sion against Notre Dame.

Ferris and Miami will con­clude the series tonight begin­ning at 5:05 p.m. at Ewigleben Ice Arena.

    Gotta win tonight! I bet the shots on goal were really lop­sided the first two periods.

    And how are the Bulldogs going to solve that GK? Even in the two shutout wins at Miama ear­lier this sea­son, they didn’t exactly get that fig­ured out. Gonna take a huge effort tonight!
