January Jams, an annual tradition on campus, is bringing rock ‘n’ roll music to Wink Arena on Jan. 21 to help beat the winter blues.

This year’s headlining band is Theory of a Deadman. Theory of a Deadman, commonly abbreviated as TOAD, will be making its second appearance on FSU’s campus. The band opened for 3 Doors Down in 2003’s January Jams.

TOAD’s 2008 album entitled “Scars and Souvenirs” has seen marked success with songs like “Wait for Me” and “Not Meant to Be”. The album is rapidly approaching platinum status. “Not Meant to Be”, which features the track’s co-writer, Kara DioGuardi, achieved Top 10 status on Music Choice’s video charts and was in rotation on MTV HITS in 2009.

Experiencing growing popularity, TOAD has been scheduled to play at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Medal Ceremonies this winter. The band will perform on Feb. 19 following the women’s snowboarding half-pipe medals. Being from Canada themselves, TOAD’s website states that the group is looking forward to showcasing some “unabashed Canadian pride” (theoryofadeadman.com).

Other bands performing this year include Halestorm, Adelitas Way, and Taking Dawn. Bands featured in previous years have ranged from Chevelle to Nickelback.

This year’s concert is sponsored by the Delta Chi fraternity along with radio station Y102.

Tickets for January Jams went on sale Monday, Jan. 11. Tickets can be purchased for $10 with a valid student ID; limit one ticket per ID. General admission costs $20. Tickets can be purchased at the Rankin Student Center Information Desk and the FSU Ice Arena Box Office.

The event takes place at Wink Arena on Thursday, Jan. 21 beginning at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Nick Maus at nmaus11@hotmail.com.

I’ve got to admit, I’m not familiar with these bands. What do students think? Is this a good choice?
