FSU Victories Over Notre Dame Tie Bulldogs at No.1 With Miami in CCHA

The Ferris State hockey team improved its unbeaten streak to 12 games in con­fer­ence play with a sweep of Notre Dame.

Five dif­fer­ent play­ers scored for the Bulldogs as they out­shot the Fighting Irish 31–20 in a 5–2 vic­tory on Saturday. Junior for­ward Mike Embach recorded a goal and two assist for Ferris. Four other play­ers added two points in the victory.

The Bulldogs com­pleted the sweep Jan. 10 with a 4–2 come­back vic­tory. Ferris trailed 2–1 at the end of the first period, but scored the games’ final three goals. Senior cap­tain Cody Chupp tal­lied a goal and assist.

With the vic­to­ries, Ferris moves into a first-place tie with Miami in the CCHA stand­ings. The Bulldogs are 16−4−2 over­all and 10−2−2−2 in con­fer­ence play. Nationally No. 1-ranked Miami was swept by non-conference oppo­nent Robert Morris University over the weekend.

Ferris hosts Miami this week­end at Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids in a crit­i­cal CCHA series matchup. The Bulldogs defeated the RedHawks in back-to-back shootouts ear­lier this sea­son, but both the Bulldogs and the Redhawks were awarded a sin­gle point for each game tied with an addi­tional point for the Bulldogs for each shootout won.

    The game is played at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. The Wink Arena in the bas­ket­bal courts. And, the Bulldogs received two points for win­ning each shootout, while the Redhawks received one.

    I was tempted to write that bas­ket­ball is spelled B-A-S-K-E-T-B-A-L-L, but then real­ized that point­ing out mis­takes some­times is not really necessary.
