After arriv­ing in Big Rapids Thursday after­noon, the mem­bers of Theory of a Deadman decided to get out on the ice at the Ewigleben Sports Complex and shoot some pucks around.

The Canadian rock band, known as TOAD for short, came to Ferris to head­line the annual January Jams con­cert. Dean Back, the band’s bassist, is no stranger to hav­ing some fun with bands like Motley Crue and Daughtry. (more…)

The Bulldog men’s bas­ket­ball team won four con­sec­u­tive road games for the first time since the 2004–2005 season.

Ferris picked up two con­fer­ence vic­to­ries on the road this week­end, giv­ing the team a 4–1 record against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) oppo­nents dur­ing this recent five-game road trip. Ferris is now 10–7 over­all and 8–4 in GLIAC play.

The Bulldogs recorded a thrilling 54–52 vic­tory over the Wayne State Warriors on Jan. 21. The vic­tory marked the first time since the 1994–1995 sea­son that Ferris has won at Wayne State. (more…)

With the recent prob­lems FerrisConnect has been expe­ri­enc­ing, some stu­dents are con­cerned about being able to com­plete their assignments.

On the FerrisConnect home­page, a progress report regard­ing tech­ni­cal dif­fi­cul­ties was posted with a mes­sage from Provost Fritz Erickson. The progress report stated that Ferris has expe­ri­enced sev­eral chal­lenges asso­ci­ated with the FerrisConnect learn­ing platform.

FSU Information Technology Services staff and Blackboard, the ser­vice asso­ci­ated with the FerrisConnect sys­tem, have been work­ing together to solve the prob­lems that began in the fall. (more…)

The events from last week’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Celebration were received favor­ably by a respon­sive Ferris community.

This year’s theme was “The Jim Crow Era: Now and Then.”

Michael Wade, Assistant Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Services (OMSS), said the entire week was a suc­cess, in his opin­ion. He said every year the goal of the MLK Celebration is to offer as many oppor­tu­ni­ties for learn­ing and inter­ac­tion as pos­si­ble for stu­dents and the com­mu­nity together. (more…)

The tragedy that has befallen Haiti has seen an out­pour­ing of sup­port from Americans, but there are still peo­ple need­ing help in our own country.

The U.S. Census esti­mates over 18 per­cent of chil­dren under the age of 18 are grow­ing up in poverty in America. An alarm­ing 12.4 mil­lion chil­dren live in homes where there isn’t always enough food to go around and over three mil­lion Americans are home­less. (more…)

Bring a Little, Taste a Little is a way for stu­dents to learn about dif­fer­ent cultures.

This event has been held on cam­pus for the past three years, and has been increas­ing in pop­u­lar­ity, accord­ing to Janel Lockwood, International Student Advisor.

“We have had to increase the potluck din­ner to three or four times a semes­ter,” said Lockwood. “They can range from 20 to 60 peo­ple.” (more…)

As a teacher in both the class­room and on the court, Bill Killian has been an impor­tant fig­ure at Ferris for more than 20 years.

Killian, a Chicago native, is a pro­fes­sor in the phys­i­cal sci­ences depart­ment and is the coor­di­na­tor of the Industrial Chemistry Technology Program.

When Killian is not teach­ing stu­dents in the class­room, he is men­tor­ing stu­dents on the court as a vol­un­teer assis­tant coach for the men’s bas­ket­ball team. Killian also serves as a Michigan-based scout for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball dur­ing the sum­mer. (more…)

Junior defense­men Zach Redmond scored the game-winning goal for the No. 8 nation­ally ranked Ferris hockey team with 24 sec­onds remain­ing to beat the University of Michigan.

Redmond took a pass from senior left wing Blair Riley and was able to get the puck past Michigan goal­tender Bryan Hogan to break a 2–2 tie and ulti­mately give the Bulldogs the win. (more…)
